what would you tell someone who is running as the principle canidate and a christian to do, if he had dirt on one of his opponents, and that the dirt is true?

Confront the candidate privately.

what kind of dirt is it? Does it violate the principals that this person claims be using to make their decisions? I say fire away, with obvious discretion (an affair violates the principals of a pro-family candidate but that's best handled privately). If it's something else, I'd probably leave it alone or take the advice above.

Speaking as former media guy, I would suggest anonymously offering up the dirt to the local fishwrap or TV assignment desks. They'll be happy to do the work for you while candidate keeps hands clean. That's how the DNC & RNC operate.
