They've put a lot of commercials out on dish lately so it's already pretty active despite only having existed for 2 weeks or so.
There's styles of auctions. Both pretty interesting.
1. Each bid costs $1 (it can be cheaper if you buy bids in bulk). You bid on the price you see and the timer to the end of the auction resets. Everytime somebody bids, the timer resets. So there will eventually be a cost that will deter more people from bidding. It sucks that your bid actually costs money, but I think that will keep prices down because there will be less bidders.
2. Hidden auctions where you don't know the price. You bid on it and it reveals the price. The bid again costs you $1 but if you don't like that price, you don't buy it. But you did lose your bid. Every time somebody bids, the price goes down until eventually somebody will buy it at the price that is revealed to them.
I don't know if I can push myself to actually pay to make a bid after using ebay for years. But I imagine you'd be able to figure out a pretty good strategy to get things cheaply while only using a few bids.
