The $787 billion stimulus bill was passed in February and was promised as a job saver and economy booster. Here is where some of the money went:

- $300,000 for a GPS-equipped helicopter to hunt for radioactive rabbit droppings at the Hanford nuclear reservation in Washington state.

- $30 million for a spring training baseball complex for the Arizona Diamondbacks and Colorado Rockies.

- $11 million for Microsoft to build a bridge connecting its two headquarter campuses in Redmond, Wash., which are separated by a highway.

- $430,000 to repair a bridge in Iowa County, Wis., that carries 10 or fewer cars per day.

- $800,000 for the John Murtha Airport in Johnstown, Pa., serving about 20 passengers per day, to build a backup runway.

- $219,000 for Syracuse University to study the sex lives of freshmen women.

and more....

seems like it would have been cheaper to give each one of those individuals who actually got a job through these things a salary to live off of for a year. $40k for a million people or so and you've spent like 40 billion, I think. They can wait out the economy for a year or so and they're consumers spending money in our economy at the same time. I just slashed the budget by like a trillion.

Microsoft has been trying to get that bridge funded for years, and they finally snuck it through in this package. Gates could pay for it with his loose change, but why, when you can get it free?

Although it very clearly has nothing to do with stimulating the economy, using the word "stimulus" might have helped the Dems short term to get the bill passed. However, it's going to hurt them in 2010 as it becomes more and more apparent everyday that the non-tax cut funds were simply used to fund pet liberal projects all across the country.

If they had just been honest from the get go and said, "Yeah, we are about to just waste a lot of money on some crap. Like Washington always does." then they wouldn't have had to worry about being held accountable.

But for some reason they went out and talked about how it was going to create 15 million jobs and save humanity. Now everybody is just laughing at them. And at ourselves for putting them in power.

My job I have now is actually considered a stimulus job, and I'm going to be getting an $8,000 tax credit for being a first time homebuyer...the stimulus has worked out GREAT for me short term, long term I hope China doesn't start demanding us to pay up.
