I bought windows 7 yesterday through the IT helpdesk marketplace, but i bought the 64 bit version and then found out my computer would run 32 bit most optimally or something like that. Will it still work?

I think you need at least 4 GB of RAM to run the 64 bit version. I upgraded from Vista Ultimate to Windows 7 Home Premium which requires a fresh install since you can't go to a lesser version of windows on the upgrade. I screwed up and downloaded the 32 bit student version and didn't realize it until I had it installed and activated. I really wanted the 64 bit version but had a ton of trouble trying to make a bootable ISO DVD to install the 64 bit version since the student download doesn't come with discs. After spending hours on various message boards and on the phone with Microsoft trying to figure it out, I think I'm just going to run the 32 bit version. So far I'm really liking the new OS. It feels a lot like Vista, only faster and much more stable. If anybody is interested in purchasing the student version, it is $29.99 for anybody with a university email address. You don't have to be a current student.

Good luck with that. You have to be able to activate the OS with the license key. It's just like Windows Vista when it comes to activating it, if you don't do it it will stop working after a certain period of time.

I actually had no problem making the disc. I couldn't get it to boot though. I got the following error when attempting to boot from the DVD:

When I try to boot I'm getting the following error message:

Windows Boot Manager

Windows failed to start. A recent hardware or software change might be the cause. To fix the problem:

1. Insert your Windows installation disc and restart your computer.
2. Choose your language settings, and click "Next."
3. Click "Repair your computer."

If you do not have this disc, contact your system administrator or computer manufacturer for assistance.

Weird, I read somewhere (someplace reputable like Gizmodo, for example) about the whole not working thing.

When I installed it, I put in the disc with the computer already on and did it that way and it worked for me.
