It's funny how he's a government "icon" but Dr. Falwell was treated as if he was trying to end the world. The media never ceases to amaze me.

I'm not going to speak ill of the dead, other than to say that when I heard he was being buried at Arlington National Cemetery, I said, 'that's disgraceful'.

I don't know, but it's the principle. Arlington National Cemetery is where men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice to this country are buried. They represent the greatest to what the United States has to offer. Ted Kennedy, I would argue, is not.

This is such a ridiculously ignorant statement. You must really hate that John Dill or Orde Charles Wingate are buried there (they were British). You probably were upset when Daniel Patrick Moynihan was buried there, but all jubilant when William Rehnquist was laid to rest there.

Irregardless of what you thought of Sen. Kennedy's political career, life, or ideology do not soil the cemetery's reputation with such disrespect. I didn't really like Sen. Kennedy and I think he road his families coattails rather than being a good politician, But I'm sure that the cemetery is full of former alcoholics, wife-beaters, and others who do not represent the "greatest the United States has to offer" as well, yet we honor them for their service, not for their lives.

Yeah, saying it's disgraceful to bury Kennedy at Arlington is pretty ignorant. It's not a cemetery for only people who were killed in combat or something like that. The dude gave his entire life to public service. Whether you agreed with his politics, liked what he stood for, or thought he was a good person, the fact that he was a life-long public service worker is enough for me to say it's ok to bury him there.

"Public service" is an interesting way to phrase murder, lawlessness and constant inebriation. this politician has spent his entire life being about power, greed and influence. Public Servants are police, Fire, teachers, garbage collectors...etc

"Public Service" -- by that same logic, someone who works filing claims at the Welfare Office should qualify to be buried in Arlington.

The only public servants who are qualified to be buried in Arlington are those who were active duty military; to answer your question from earlier, Rehnquist joined the Army Air Forces during World War II, Moynihan was a gunnery officer for the Navy.

As for the Brits, Dill was instrumental in forging US / British relations, and Wingate helped forge US / British / Israeli relations. They're okay in my book.

Ted Kennedy's military service consisted of *not* going to Korea because of Daddy's connections, and climbing the Matterhorn while stationed in Europe.

His public service consisted of blatant partisanship, even at the expense of country (remember, he reached out to the USSR in an attempt to undermine President Reagan towards the end of the Cold War).

Regarding Ted Kennedy, let me say this: the guy got his hands dirty. He actually worked, and unlike the John Edwards / Barack Obama's of the world, didn't feel as if he was entitled to the Presidency. Kennedy worked hard for 18 years before his unsuccessful bid, versus the latter two who served for almost half a tenth a century before deciding that the country deserved their leadership.

I am about as conservative as they come and do not agree with just about anything Ted Kennedy stood for but I have no problem with him being buried in Arlington because he did serve in the armed forces. If you want to make an issue out of getting special privileges because of his family, this works no matter what political party you are for (George W Bush…). There are few people in Congress today that are as passionate about what they do as Kennedy was. Although I would agree that he did ride his family’s coattails, and out of the 3 brothers I would agree he was the least likely to be a success, he still deserves respect for his service to our country.

oh and as far as where the murdurer is burried, i too have no problem with arlington...thats what its there for...i just think its funny hearing "public service" and "kennedy" in the same sentence.

haha, most dictionaries list it as nonstandard. Sometimes, I refer to things as being cliché even though they are clichéd. Replace it with "regardless" if you feel so inclined.

Well I can think of at least one person that had a worse life b/c of roads driven by him.

Having gone to UNCA, I obviously hang out with a lot of liberals. I don't have a problem with them. We disagree on a lot of issues. That's fine. I don't hate Ted Kennedy b/c of his politics. I hate him b/c he killed a woman and got away with it. He should have been in jail for vehicular manslaughter, not having his funeral aired on national television and being hailed as some type of hero by the freakin' President of the United States. Any other last name besides "Kennedy" and this monster would have gotten the time in jail that he deserved. And extreme shame to the people of Massachusettts that continued to re-elect this fool for 50+ years, even after it was abdundantly clear that a young woman would still be alive were it not for him.

Saw a report that said he would ask a friend if he "heard any new Chappaquiddick jokes." He seemed to enjoy it. What an absolute d-----bag in every sense of the word. The world is now a bettter place.
