I saw the new Disney flick "Invincible" tonight. Its based on the story of the part-time Philly bartender in Mid '70s who tried out and made the Eagles. Its a well above average football movie starring Mark Wahlberg & Greg Kinnear (perfectly cast as a young Dick Vermeil).
This is an absolute must see for you Philly boys. I believe the movie comes out in a week or two.

That movie was filmed with my childhood home in the background of nearly every shot of football footage on the practice field. I used to live across the street from Central High's football field and could watch the games for free from my bedroom window. It was really cool on Thanksgiving when Overbrook high would come in. Central is also where Bill Cosby went to school. I learned how to play football on that hollowed ground. We used to climb the fence and play pickup there. Anyway, the story about Vince Papali is a great one. I am old enough to remember him and he actually was one of my favorite players. And that was before I became a walk on myself at Liberty....Hey maybe Disney can do my story in a few years! Who would play me? (wow what a set up for a punch line. Ok, SJ, Sly, Medic, take your best shot

Rocketfan, I had no idea you were from Philly! Medic and I have been towing the load vs these knuckeheads for over a year now. Glad to know we have some backup.

Can't really say i am "from" Philly but being from South Jersey and living about 20 minutes away for 20 years of my life i consider myself a Philly guy. I didn't grow up on the means streets on anything but my whole family has lived in and around philly for 100 + years.

My vote goes from Ving Rhames....he seems like a pretty athletic. They might be able to make him look young.

This is one of the better football movies done in recent years. Its as much about the story of him coming from despair in a time when Philly was crumbling and looking for a hero. There were several places int he movie when the crowd actually began cheering out loud and clapping. That doesn't happen with many movies I've been to in a long time.
Frankly, it reminded me a lot of my childhood growing up with steel mills closing around me in Ohio. Its a definite feelgood movie. You'dhave to be a pretty cold person to not get some chills by the end of the flick.

Sly that is nice to know that it is a good movie. I know the story is good and I am sure Disney did it justice. I happen to like Mark Wahlberg as an actor too. I can't wait to get out and see this.

He did a credible job although he is clearly too short to be considered an NFL tight end.
You Philly guys are goign to really appreciate the attention to detail with the correct names on the jerseys and actors who actually looked like the real players. Even the guys they had playing Staubach & Landry were well cast.

Oh man you got me pumped now. Was Jaworski in it? How about Wilbert Montgomery and Harold Carmichael?

Jaws wasn't QB for Papale's rookie season and Montgomery hadn't arrived yet either. But the Byalor WRS coach's character is in the flick. Remember, its based on the '76 season.

Thats right. Roman Gabriel was the QB. I remember #5. I like the #5 we have now a little better though. In another twist, that year Gabriel came to Philly, he flew in a helicopter to meet fans and that helicopter landed where? Central Field right across the street from my house. Same place they filmed. Small world.
