Is CG the worst thing to ever happen to movies?

It's funny how in 1993 when Jurassic Park came out it was probably the best thing that ever happened to making movies because things looked more realistic. And it actually still holds up for the most part (maybe because it was a combination of robotic puppets and CG). But as the years go on it just seems to get worse and worse with the pinnacle most likely being speed racer or possibly the newer star wars junk. Here's the latest failure:

<object width="560" height="340"><param name="movie" value="
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="560" height="340"></embed></object>

What the heck was the problem with how they did the original? At least in terms of how they human characters looked. Everything else is supposed to be video gamey. Now it's like watching a Pixar movie with human faces.

We should go back to the old days of special effects. I personally think anything more than what this commercial budgeted for CGI is overkill.

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

It just amazes me how incredible Jurassic Park was and made that long ago...

I watched Terminator 2 the other day. The opening scene set in the future didn't really hold up... But the T-1000 was (and still is) incredible.

I think the problem that we're having with remakes and CGI and such is that something that made the orginals so good was that we kinda acknowledged that it was cheesy. These moves had a certain "campyness" to it made it so enjoyable.

If you've ever seen the original "Predator" movie... The effects aren't great but the movie is highly-rewatchable because it's fun in the "turn your brain off and watch things get blowed up" way. It was cool. The most recent "Predators" put the original to shame in terms of effects... But there is no way that the movie is as good -- or as rewatchable -- or as memorable -- as the first.

I think for the most part the Lord of the Rings trilogy is how to get it right, and to a large extent King Kong. They actually film in real settings, NOT IN GREEN-SCREEN STUDIOS!, and mix in heavy doses of CGI when required. But you look at a lot of the comic book movies, and they just look aweful. Go back and watch the Spiderman movies, they look like low budget made-for-TV movies.

Um, gonna have to disagree with this one.

Normally I'm as anti-CGI as they come, but in the case of Tron I think it's perfect. The people in the original were supposed to be digitized, but they had no way to do it back then. This is how Tron was meant to be. There's nothing wrong with the original, either. It was just a first of it's kind.

Although, if you don't like CGI, you pretty much have Tron to blame for it. It was the first.
