If you thought domination of the world's software market was cool, get a load of Bill Gates' next technological vision: giant ocean-going tubs that fight hurricanes by draining warm water from the surface to the depths, through a long tube.

A second tube could simultaneously suck cool water from the depths to the surface.

640 tubes ought to be enough for anybody.

(Waiting to see if anyone got the joke. No? Nuts.)

I've always thought it's a little scary to be doing stuff like this. There was some kind of moisture pellets that could be dropped from a plane within a hurricane and suck up all the moisture, thus killing the storm a couple years back. It just seems like you're messing with a powerful force of nature. It's not like all they do is destroy people's homes.

Sounds good in theory, but what if something goes wrong? For example, instead of passing over the cooler water and weakening, the atmospheric conditions are right for it to shift towards warmer water? and in some cases, the warmer water would then put foreign coasts in its path...

What would happen in that situation?

Thankfully, the good people at The Onion News Network have already covered similar events:
