Blackberry Tour

Is anybody going to be getting one of these when they come out this weekend? I am really considering making the switch from a windows machine to the Tour. I have seen really good things about it, just curious if anybody else is considering it as well.

Does it have Wi-fi?

It does not appear that it does. In fact, it does not appear that any Verizon phones have wifi.

I was all jazzed to get the Niagara/Tour back six months ago when WiFi was still a possibility. When the specs came out back in March that showed WiFi wouldn't be available I was sorely disappointed. Allegedly a WiFi-enabled version of the Tour is now set for Christmas with a new name that I can't recall. So it appears I am still rocking my 8830 for awhile longer.

I mentioned this phone in the Blackberry thread...I'll be picking one up on Wed....sure it doesnt have wifi but that's not a true deal breaker....it's ignorant on RIM's part but that's ok, they'll fix it. They just has to push up this date b/c of Iphone and the Pre or they would have just waited until they had all this solved...still a great great phone that you will love...promise you

I may not be getting it after all...I am eligible for an upgrade, but found out that my wife is not till December. We were with Alltel, so I was told that when I upgraded, my wife would have to as well, because we can not have an Alltel phone and a Verizon phone on the family plan.

I am going to go talk to them tomorrow and see if it is still possible, but do not have high hopes...

I have a Blackberry that they gave me for work...I don't get it. I hope they upgrade us to iphones but doubt that will happen anytime soon. Executives have them though.

I think RIM would do it if they were allowed.

So..I went to Verizon today to gather some info and here is what I found out.

If you are a former Alltel customer and have one phone available for an upgrade and the other is not, they will allow you to upgrade both for the new 2 year contract price. There is a $20 upgrade fee though...

Now...do I want to get the Tour or not....

BTW...for other BB owners out there....the $30 Blackberry fee that is added to your plan...is that only a BB thing? I do not have that with my Windows Mobile device right now. What do you get for this $30 that I am not getting with my Windows device?

LUconn what do you mean if they are allowed? They already have it in the bold and this is like a sister to the bold.

HG: that seems to be what VZ and other companies do...I'm with sprint where there is no BB fee and I just pay the $99 for unlimited everything...but yes you dont have that with a WM device

but the upgrade from WM to BB is well worth it...like I've said before, I normally switch phones every 6 months but every since I've touched a BB I will keep it until a better BB comes out and switch to that...I've prob had 5 different PDA phones and this is by far the best

What is there not to get, Scar? Do you want a business phone or a cool toy?

Perhaps this new version of the iPhone is much better than the one I used a year and a half ago. But count me strongly in the BB crowd until something proves superior ... and I am not convinced the Pre has.

The Bold is with AT&T. The iPhone is with AT&T. Both have wifi. I don't know how sprint is but I think verizon is putting the halt on wifi on their phones.

What is it about the blackberry that made it clearly superior to the iPhone?

Ease of operation and instant email connectivity for business functions. The keyboard is much easier to operate as well. I guess I am just wired to think of a phone as a business tool and not just a souped iPod. If I were a gamer, I would automatically skew toward the Apple products. But I am too busy for that these days.

Can I use my blackberry for music? I tried to plug in headphones but they didn't fit...I do like it for work email though. I can be at lunch or on my way to the office and already answer emails and see what is on my calendar for the day without having to log into my computer.

The iPhone is behind the eight-ball in the sense that it has to deal with the inferior AT&T network. And it gets really hot when you use it for, oh, twenty minutes.

The only differences I see are expandable memory, an lcd screen and it can work through out the world. So my question is it worth me switching from my curve?

Depends on how Techy you are....for me the new OS is worth it...it's just got some upgrades....if I wasnt Techy then I'd stick with the curve...it's a great great phone...if we had 3G here I'd say yes b/c your curve cant do high speed but we dont

The Tour will be with Sprint very soon. Or you could just wait for the Onyx to come out. And by that time, you might as well wait for the next one to come out.

It's going to be released on Wed

I'm not sure about the Onyx you mentioned....what is it?

Dear HMO/phone guru:

please come up here to my house, get Nextel on the horn, and get me and MrsPA free upgrades because we don't like the phones we have now.

Thanks.

***

PS: we don't text, don't go on the internet, and definitely want the push-to-talk function. And right now I pay less than $100/mo total for both phones, so it can't be higher than that. I had unlimited everything, she had unlimited walkie and 300 min/mo. and doesn't even use that, so I combined them into a family plan sharing 1000 min/mo.

***

PPS: maybe get me one of those Blackberry things. I don't know why. I just want one now b/c everyone else has one.

***

PPSS (?) : I usually get the ruggedized ones. Because I have serious anger management issues and tend to throw phones.

Thanks again- love ya

I think your problem with getting Nextel to help you out is that they don't exist anymore.

After reading the specs for the Onyx, I am going to wait and see if Sprint gets it. I seems like it combines all of the best features from each bb model into one super phone.
