The Euros couldn't wait to get Bush out of here. Now Obama's giving them everything they wanted.

So now they have agreed to destroy our economy to do the impossible. Their goal? To not let global temperatures rise more than 2 degrees Celcius. I hope someone consulted the sun about this and got it to agree.

To do this, they have set the benchmark of cutting greehouse gas emissions worldwide by 50%, and in developed nations (the US being #1) by 80%! Someone explain to me how that is even possible without reverting back to pre-Industrial Revolution conditions.

Hopefully Obama is using the same tricks on the G8ers as he used on the majority of his voters, say one thing and do another.

President Obama and other leaders backed historic new targets for tackling global warming last night in an agreement designed to pave the way for a world deal in the autumn.

For the first time, America and the other seven richest economies agreed to the goal of keeping the world’s average temperature from rising more than 2C (3.6F).

They also agreed to cut greenhouse gas emissions by 80 per cent by 2050 as they strove for a worldwide deal at Copenhagen in December.

What are they going to do about the sunspots then? the sun isn't starting to get very active sunspot activity again, the first time it has done that in a while apparently, and scientific data shows earth's temperatures are directly related to sunspot activity...

It really isn't much more than puffed up rhetoric, I'm not sure if I would jump on the "the sky is falling and the world economy is going to collapse" bandwagon yet. But you are more than welcome to, as you did. Why would you make a promise to meet some goal 40 years from now? Because any current government isn't going to be accountable at that point. With those long terms it is much easier to assume that oil production will be outpaced by demand and everyone is assuming other carbon-neutral energy technology will take its place. So, I guess if that doesn't happen, Malthusian theory will take over and your bandwagon position will be a correct albeit for opposite reasons.

Damned if you and damned if you don't.

Not sure how I jumped on any bandwagon, just reporting what was, uh, reported, and then stated that if Obama is sincere, that it would destroy the economy. And my last sentence states how I hope that it is rhetoric. Captain Hyperbole strikes again.

I leave my car running for hours while I'm in my house hoping to increase global warming so we can get a July day in the 90's for once

I'll take the way the weather has been this summer over 95 and 100% humidity any time.
