So I am in Dallas for a meeting this week, and other then going to a Rangers game (Tuesday v Yanks) I have NO IDEA what to do. We are at the Hyatt DFW, and word on the street is that it is about 400 miles from ANYTHING
Where are the Texas folk to help a brother out????

Check out the West End area. Great restaurants and night life--and a couple of primo BBQ joints. Tony Romas used to have a Sunday "all you can eat" ribs special.

You are ather far away from most of the cool areas. Generally speaking the best places are in the downtowns of both Dallas & Fort Worth (which are both a decent drive away).

AG is correct that the West End is a great suggestion. Its like most other urban renewals with lots of cool, trendy and chain restaurants with some nice atomsphere particularly in the evenings.

I thoroughly enjoy heading over to Fort Worth. If you haven't been the Stockyards, it will give the true Old West feel most still associate with Texas.

As far as dining is concerned, you might as well eat what the locals eat ... barbecue & TexMex. I believe there is a Pappasitos right by your hotel (its been awhile since I have stayed there ... I usually fly in & out). As far as BBQ us concerned, there is a location in Fort Worth that everybody swears by that escapes me right now. Just ask the desk what the name of the famous BBQ joint in Fort Worth is called and they'll tell you. I've been there and its legit even though its not on par with Central Texas BBQ (the barbecue center of the universe).

If you are looking to kill some time in the evenings, try Deep Ellum.

If you like Chipotle, there is a better version based in Texas called Freebirds that I HIGHLY recommend. I believe there is a location close to DFW.

If you see something you have a question about, just post it here. Keep in mind this is probably the hottest week of the year in Texas. So dress accordingly.

The Ticket has very little to do with sports, but it is entertaining radio. The guys in the afternoon called "The Hard Line" have a really funny show. The LU guy and his buddy are easily the weakest daytime show. The morning guys are wildly popular in DFW but are way too crude for my tastes.

That might change now that they are the new home of the Dallas Cowboys....

I seriously doubt they will jack with the format. The station has some of the best numbers in the nation for a "sports" station. But the content has more to do with locker room humor than sports. That's why there are several other real sports talk stations in town. Hey, I think the Ticket is hilarious for the most part (when they don't go too far over the top in their crudeness) but they are far from the place to really talk sports.

Yeah I give Bob a ton of credit from going from the Sportsline to Dallas in one move... that's pretty much unheard of

Going to Billy Bob's is an interesting experience - we've gone to shows over there - they have a WIDE variety of acts show up there - from Pat Benetar to David Allen Coe. Usually up front they have a normal live country band and you can two-step. I haven't tried the mechanical bull - but its probably worth it ;) On Friday and Saturday nights they have real bull riding in the pen up front.

Deep Ellum is pretty cool for people watching. I used to hang down there all the time about 14 years ago (ugh - that's a long time ago) - its changed a little - lots of restaurants and little clubs. I like eating at Momo's and watching the people go by.

You could also go to Reunion Tower (with the big ball on it)...go up for a drink or appetizer and just rotate around the city. I don't know if there is much to see in West End - it was happening years ago, but a lot of shops have left - lots of food down there. Any of the Pappas* restaurants are good - I love Pappadeax (seafood/cajun-ish)

If you're still in town and need some help - give us a holler!

Well Sunday nite I went to a Tex Mex place called Luray's or something. Pretty good. It was over by UT - Dallas. Last night was the Rangers/Yankees game and wonderful stadium food. Tonight was AWESOME we went to a Brazillian restaurant that I think literally translated into "All The Meat You Can Eat". It was AMAZING (Especially since the company was picking up my bill!!!) Tomorrow night we are renting out one of the airplane hangers and brining in an 80's cover band, I am totally GEEKED. I will probably be the last one near stage, holding up a lighter and swaying to Still Lovin You by the Scorpians. Not sure what I am going to do Thursday. May head to Six Flags for the evening or find something else "Texas" to do. Then back to the 'burg

You will really like Six Flags, although it is no Cedar Point. Titan is a good roller coaster, but not even close to Millenium Force. Look for a little stand that sells mixed fruit drinks. Some of the best drinks I have ever had (that do not contain alcohol!) Batman and Mr. Freeze are OK. Again...can not compare Batman to the Raptor. The Texas Giant is a pretty good woodie. I feel it is better than the Mean Strek, which I think is one of the weakest wood coasters out there. It is WAY to slow for as big as it is. Way to many breaks on the ride. Now the Blue Streak is another story...There are also not Happy Friar fries in Six Flags. This reminds me...we need a rollercoaster thread on here!

Six Flags over Texas is a fairly pedestrian park even by Six Flags standards. But at least they have a park in Arlington. Six Flags deemed the real estate below Astroworld too valuable and bulldozed the park here this past year. So now I have to drag my kids all the way to San Antonio for the annual sweatfest.

I'm guessing you went to Texas de Brasil or Fogo. Both are outstandinding options and the company nickel is probably getting a workout.

Get your mind out of the gutter, PAmedic.

And for the record, guest ... Cedar point is no Kings Island. :D

You can not COMPARE those two parks. Once you go Cedar Point everything else is vying for second place!! Mrs Purple (would that be Fucia?) didn't believe me but now she is a believer. Perhaps it was the two times she peed her pants and the one time she threw up!!! Cedar Point has it ALL over Kings Island, although, in farness, there was a time in the mid/late 80's KI WAS the better of the two.
As for the Brazilian place it was all Portugese words and it was located next to a CVS, which would have come in handy had I not already had a supply of NEXIUM!! (Wonder how I got that!!)

Still up in the air for tomorrow, was hoping the Rangers were going to play but alas, they have a day off. (Slackers)

The last time I was at Cedar Point was 6-7 years ago ... actually, its been about 10 years since Kings Island. But the Beast remains my all-time fave. Cedar Point was always the smaller, weak park in Ohio when I was growing up in the 70s & 80s. It simply didn't have as many rides since it was landlocked and the ones they had weren't all that. Perhaps some newer rides have come along. Maybe its just the stench of Cleveland nearby in the air? I don't know.

Isn't everything in America next to a CVS?
