This could be a way for us to show a little more personality, plus it's a good way for others (i.e. me) to possibly find some new music.

I just got finished downloading Gym Class Heroes' cd called The Papercut Chronicles. They're an indie rap group that plays all of their own music. I'm generally not a rap fan but I actually like this a lot. They're on the same record label as Fall Out Boy and Panic! At The Disco (Fueled by Ramen - started by some guys in Less Than Jake). I also have three songs off of their new album that's coming out Tuesday and I heard the first 20 seconds of the first song and all I could do was smile. It was an acoustic guitar with drums, then a bass came in later, and there's an acoustic guitar lead part of everything. Oh wow, it was good.

Before I got this cd I was listening to Are You Nervous by Rock Kills Kid (Fearless Records).

Lately I've downloaded a ton of stuff from Fueled By Ramen, Fearless Records, and Immortal Records. All have some very good bands.

SJ,

Just got into downloading about a month ago when I got a Nano. I have hundreds of disks so I put mostly my music that I like on there but now I am looking for more and I just use iTunes at .99 a pop. Where can I go to get more without paying so much? Will I be able to put it on my iPod? I am getting a new laptop with a Media Center too so maybe I can use that to get my music from now on...To answer the thread's question, I have been listening to old school hiphop lately and old school R& B since that is what my cd collection mainly consists of. I do like this guy Van Hunt and I have 2 of his albums. He is kinda like Prince and Marvin Gaye rolled into one. He plays Rock guitar sometimes or he might hit you with a piano driven song. You may like him even though I would put him in a Neo Soul, R&B category. Not typical for sure though.

I download most of my songs from Musicsearch.com to put in my Nano library. It is $20 one time fee and lasts forever. It is filesharing so sometimes you get some duds and it is a slow process at times but that is okay buty you can't beat the price. You also might have to change some of the info such as album, gendre, etc for each song since it is filesharing. Give it a try sometimes. You won't be disappointed and like I said, you can't beat the price. You might have to install a patch to get by the firewall (if any) but it is available for download right on the website. Occasionally I get Itunes music cards to download what is not available on Musicsearch.com. I have been downloading music in the Thrash/death metal gendre (not mainstream stuff which can be tough to find in stores) bands such as In Flames, Killswitch Engage, Shadows Fall, Dark Tranquility, Children of Bodom, Decapitated, Nightrage, Lamb of God, All that Remains, and Suffocation to name a few.

My cousin likes the stuff you're talking about, I've never been a big fan.

SCAR, I use Limewire. I've never had any problems with it. You can get the free version or the paying version, it doesn't matter. I know Medic asked me about it the other day because he had a problem installing it. You can use those songs on an iPod. I've got about 2500 or so on my computer right now (after deleting about 1000 in April).

Thanks SJ. I will try it...and once again let me set the record straight by saying that I AM NOT BALD. I shave my head. Believe me I am sitting here with a wooly head of hair right now because I am too lazy to get the clippers out. Gotta do it today though. I do like the signature though SJ.

Hey, you're bald if you shave it. I didn't have enough room to say "SCAR really has hair, he chooses to shave it all off."

I've found a lot of music on Purevolume. LOTS of stuff for free download -- you just have to separate the good stuff from the pure junk (and there's a lot of both).

AMP has a lot of different music podcasts that feature a HUGE variety of music. Everything from blues to punk rock. Lots of indie rock, three different Christian rock shows (including mine) each with a bit different feel to it. All the shows should be available for free through iTunes, all you have to do is subscribe and synch them to your iPod.

The Podsafe Music Network also has a lot of good music, but I THINK you have to be a registered podcaster to download and keep the music. And of course there are a ton of bands offering free downloads through MySpace -- but you really have to sort out the garbage there.

So this might make sound a little less informed, but, if i'm downloading from a site that is free - i.e. Morpheus, is that illegal? I stopped downloading a while ago, just for the sake of not wanting to get a wicked big fine.

It's only illegal if you get caught.

I always put my settings to where I never upload music, only download it. That pretty much helps me not get caught.

Did anybody bother checking out allofmp3.com yet? It's not free, but it's hardly cost prohibitive either.

Oh, and back to the original question, I'm listening to Johnny Cash - American V: A Hundred Highways. It's just as perfect as the rest of the American album series has been. In fact, I've been listening to all five sequentially a lot since the fifth one came out.

In regards to downloading music for free, the legality of this (and virtually anything else) really depends on the judge. One judge may convict you, while another one will find no precedent to do so. Even allofmp3s.com, although it may be legal in Russia, doesn't abide by U.S. Copyright laws, and if you're caught downloading stuff there, even though you paid for it, you could probably be tried. Again, the outcome would be dependent on the judge.

I've been listening to The Format and Scary Kids Scaring Kids today. I downloaded the Snow Patrol cd but haven't really listened to it.

Which Snow Patrol album? They're both incredibly good.

Though I'm hesitant to admit it because I still find them juvenile, the new My Chemical Romance album has been surprisingly good.

Jay-Z's latest might be his best.

And if you've been putting off Christmas music, both Brad Paisley and Sarah McLachlan have released outstanding Christmas albums this year.
