Who has the better service??

I was an Alltel customer and just got converted over to Verizon. I'm considering switching to Sprint to get on a family plan with my bf, so I was wondering if their service has improved any over the past 5 years?? I used to have them back in 2004 and my service wasn't that great and a lot of my calls would get dropped and there were a lot of places where I'd be roaming. I'd like to stay with Verizon and get the BB Storm, but he wants to go to Spring and get the Palm Pre. Sprint is cheaper, so that may be the deciding factor, but just thought I'd see how the service was these days??

Tell him to wait 6 months and get the Pre on Verizon. Their coverage is superior here. The wait will be worth it for both of you.

Sprint is 2nd best here, which is not bad. They just can't beat the Verizon network.

Yeah, the verizon network is just better. I guess it just depends on what phone you want and how bad you want it. You're better off waiting because as he said the Pre will be with big red next year. On top of that the storm 2 is coming out this year possibly and will either be what you want, having fixed all of the bugs on the first (which is greatly exaggerated) or drive down the price of the original storm. Then again there will also be more phones in the game no doubt. This game of waiting will never end because there will always be something better coming out 6 months from now.

VZ and Sprint really is not a big enough difference to allow that to factor in. My room mate had VZ and I had Sprint...whenever I had trouble he generally did as well. Rarely that happens though....plus when you roam now a days it wont cost you so again I dont think that should factor in.

VZ has better phones hands down...they are #2 in the game as far as best phones go...ATT is #1 and Sprint is #3.

Plans - if you DONT need a everything plan I'd go with VZ. If you do want unlimited everything I'd go with Sprint. Their everything plan is the best. I really like the way VZ is allowing you to call certain people on different networks. If I didnt use my phone so much that would weigh heavy on my decision.

I've stuck with Sprint simply b/c they are great to work with, we get a huge discount each month and they will hook me up with good phones cheap every 6-8 months.

Isn't the everything plan just for 1 line? If you've got 2 people on one plan, your everything plan has quickly gotten to be expensive.

I dunno, dude. Between the old Alltel network and the existing Verizon network they've got a heck of an infrastructure built out. Alltel had the Southeast completely covered, even the rural areas. Verizon was everywhere they weren't. I think it's somewhat significant. Just my opinion, though.

I was going to say that exact same thing. I have Alltel. I have service practically everywhere I go. The only place I don't have service is about a mile or two stretch on 501 going to Lexington. Last summer when I went to the mountains of PA I had service for about 20 minutes into the mountains past where everyone else (AT&T and Sprint) lost theirs.

If you want coverage, go Verizon.

I will agree that with them merging, that helps out a ton. I'm guess I'm just saying that now a days with dual band sometimes tri band that coverage at least to me just doesnt matter. If I am in the country and roam I'm using VZ/Altell towers anyways so I'm never "out of service"

I find it hard to believe that in today's modern technology anyone has ever seen "out of service" on their phone I dont care what service your with.

LUconn- yes my plan is expensive. Still cheaper than ATT if I wanted the same thing though. I dont mind spending $99 (I dont get the 35% off on this plan just the other 3) for unlimited data, text, voice and whatever else you can do. Normally to use a phone as modem is another $30. Data too can sometimes be an add on.

Boast Mobile is offering this plan for $50. I wonder what towers they use though and what towers they would use in roaming and if it would be an extra charge. If not I'd set my phone to roam only and still get everything for half the price...but they have awful phones.

Hang out with me for 24 hours and I can show you a "No Service" message multiple times in that time period. Unless it's at Liberty I can't go in any building in Lynchburg without losing service at some point.

So, as I thought, VZ still has the better network. I just wish their family plan wasn't a whopping $50 more a month than Sprint

I still dont think your fully grasping what I'm saying though. Yes, VZ does have better service...but its really not THAT huge of a difference to be a deal breaker. I promise you will never see "No Service" on your Sprint phone. If you do have low Sprint service it switch's over to Altell/VZ towers so you're then getting their service cheaper.

Heck, I lived in a home that got bad Sprint service and good Altell service so I just kept my phone roam only the entire time. Plus Sprint is going to be the first 4G network which is awesome when you travel

So go with the cheaper plan...also Sprint does a ton of discounts if you research you should be able to find. Not to mention plans that only retention offers (you have to call) that are even better than anything they can offer you in stores.

I agree with HMO. It is really a good and fairly inexpensive company.
