If you're with Sprint then you can be in luck. If not then dont try it. I've rarely heard of anyone other than Sprint really willing to help people out in this area.
If you're with Sprint. Speak to retentions. Tell them that you want to pay the internet price for new customers b/c your current phone is not performing at what it was marketed to do (reception, dropped calls, etc) and 9 times out of 10 they will give you the internet price. I DONT get phones free. I simply would pay what a new customer would pay. So for the Pre it would be $199.
Also go to Sprintusers.com and read what those people are doing. That's where I learn what to do half the time....things to say etc. Sprint Employees are given guidelines to follow if someone complains about a certain problem. Example, I knew to complain about the lag and screen on the Instinct and that's when they gave me the Curve at new customer price
With all that said, a coach on campus just switched to the Pre (getting it for the $199 even just having bought the Curve at new customer price 5 months ago...so he did my trick too) . For the first time in years I think I'm going to wait a little bit before I switch....if I switch at all. I think it's a GREAT phone that would be awesome...but Blackberry has turned me to the dark side. I enjoy being able to use my phone as a modem to much and i need to wait to see what kind of luck people have with the Pre using it as a PAM (Phone as modem) without having to pay the extra $30 a month.
I have hopes that we'll be getting a new Blackberry coming to Sprint int he next few months...looks like Summer or the end of Summer.
Alums, if you're with Sprint and want some help I will....we'll meet up some time and I will speak to them as if I'm you. I've done that for some people in the AD at LU and they've all had luck. No promises but I've always had good luck. I'm also spending $160 a month with them for about 20 years now though. Although I've done it for people only spending $99 a month with no problems. I dont think it's about the money and how long you've been with Sprint...its more about them wanting to keep you as a customer. B/c at one time due to a law suit you could leave sprint with out a penalty...not sure if that's still the case but it has had them wanting to keep customers.
