Sorry if there is already a thread on this but I just got the iPod touch and I really love it. It is essentially the same as the iPhone and I am just wondering what games or apps everyone else likes assuming you have the iPhone. I can recommend the MLB app. It is fantastic but does cost 10 dollars.

And the MLB app requires you buy the new version every year. I bought it last year for 5 bucks, I won't pay for it ever again. Every other app gives you free updates, MLB one should as well.
I've got several games bookmarked on appshopper or toucharcade (i highly recommend both websites) I will consider getting in the future. But currently these are the top apps I have:
AIM
Air Sharing
Ambiance
Dictionaire
Equivalence (unit coversion)
Facebook
Google
Naturespace
Pandora
Phone Aid (never know when you'll ned first aid info)
TouchType (allows you to type emails in landscape mode - next firmware update will include this ability natively though)
The Weather Channel
WebMD
Wikiamo - wikipedia for the iPod, multiple wikipedia apps out there though
100 Pushups
200 Situps
200 Squats
Amazon Kindle
WebSave - web browser that allows you to save files
Stanza - ebook reader, allows you to download a ton of books that are no longer under copyright
Wattpad - similar to stanza
Games:
Bejewled 2
Checkers
Super Collapse
Crystal Defenders
Sol Free
Amazing Sudoku
Vanguard
Four Free
Tic Tac Free

See, that's why I love the Touch. It's the iPhone without the sucky phone.
Haven't gotten into apps that much yet -- the one sucky part of the Touch is that it doesn't play nice with my WEP encrypted WiFi; everything I've read says that I have to change to WAP or something, and I'm not changing my whole network for one device. So I haven't really gotten to play with some of the really cool sounding apps. I tend to stick with the free apps -- games, mostly. Superstars of Poker 3, iFighter Lite, XPlane Trainer, Football (a paper football 'simulator'), Stunt Car Free, and Payback Lite are what I'm running now.

I'm not sure I understand what about the phone sucks.
I mean, in Lynchburg it definitely sucks but that's a local AT&T issue. When I'm in NC (which is a lot lately) it's always fantastic.

at&t sucks....and all everyone complains about is when they are doing something and someone calls it basically shuts it down unless its itunes...

I heard rumors that Apple may be talking to Verizon about expanding to Verizon as well. AT&T's 2 year contract is up.....but some are speculating that they are saying that Apple and Verizon are talking to enhance the new AT&T contract.
Anybody heard anything to this?

I had heard a while back that AT&T was trying to reup on that contract. I have no idea why apple would want to do that. Why would verizon be trying to enhance a competing company's contract?

I'm fairly certain AT&T already renegotiated their contract and will remain the exclusive carrier for a while.
From Apple's point of view it's a simple manufacturing decision. Make as few versions of the phone as possible to keep costs down. In the rest of the world GSM signaling is standard. In the US it's used by AT&T and T-Mobile. Between the two, AT&T is in many more markets.
I don't think you'll see Verizon come into the picture until everyone coverts to LTE signaling for 4G around 2012. LTE will be the worldwide standard and since both AT&T and Verizon are on board with it in the U.S., it should be a no-brainer. Sprint, on the other hand, will be sticking with WiMax for their 4G signaling. No iPhone for them.

Never even noticed. Guess I'll have to pay attention to that the next time I get a call.

Well the Exchange stuff definitely shouldn't shut down. The Mail.app is one of the Apple apps that can run in the background. I use the Exchange integration with my LU account. It's quite nice, actually. Perhaps the best Exchange integration I've seen on a phone.

Just downloaded the wifi tracker app today. I heartily recommend it if you like to use wifi on the go. I found lots of wifi hots spots that I could log onto that did not work or show up with the default wifi locator. Several that I located were not public wifi spots either. I even logged into a wifi spot while driving through the car wash today at the auto spa.

it looks like im going to be getting an iphone next week, but i figured id ask some fairly stupid questions here first.
1) is it worth it to pay less and get the refurbished iphone to save money
2) the iphone data plan, thats on top of the monthly plan cost right? so like 39.99 + 30 a month?
3) sending email messages and on facebook wont qualify as messages if i dont get text messages. Like if I get email or anything else like that, its not going to charge me.20 for a text message is it?

I personally don't care for refurb stuff. Too many bad experiences, but they are cheaper so if money is a consideration, it's certainly one way to go.
rueful wrote:2) the iphone data plan, thats on top of the monthly plan cost right? so like 39.99 + 30 a month?
Correct. $30 unlimited data plan on top of whatever voice package you choose.
rueful wrote:3) sending email messages and on facebook wont qualify as messages if i dont get text messages. Like if I get email or anything else like that, its not going to charge me.20 for a text message is it?
Email is considered data. You pay for unlimited data. Only SMS messages are charged as SMS messages.
Hope that helps.
