Assuming there has to be other golfers on here, where do people usually go the most? Im looking for some place nice but cheap, in other words, I want the course to look better than my back yard, but be affordable enough for a college student to go once a week.

I played colonial hills tonight, it was alright I guess, but hoping there are nicer places that are still affordable. Plus the guy in the shop acted like I ruined his day by coming in.

I'd say either London Downs or Ivy Hill. You can ride 18 at London Downs for $25 on Mondays. Ivy Hill is $33 to ride 18 during the week. There aren't many good choices in Lynchburg. You could always go to Poplar Forest but it's not that great (worse than Colonial Hills) and it's only 9 holes. Of course when I lived in the dorms in the early 2000s we didn't have much money so we'd go to Cedar Hills pretty often. That place is terrible but very cheap. Stick with London Downs or Ivy Hill if you're looking for nicer courses. You could always try Poplar Grove in Amherst which is very nice but pricier.

Oh, I've also made the same mistake when trying to visit Dick's Sporting Goods online. The home page isn't as bad as you would think by the name but I'd still NSFW.

If you want a bargain basement price, there's a 3-par course on 501 South not too far from campus.

Peaks Par 3 isn't golf. It's some guy's back yard with 80 yard holes and flags stuck in what are supposed to be greens.

You might want to call to make sure they don't have a holiday rate today.

Have you played Poplar Forest? It's pretty cheap but it's only 9 holes. I start to hate golf after 9 holes so I like it the most

I always liked Poplar Forest, but I think that was just because it was always suited to my game. I could score 5-7 strokes better there for nine than anywhere else I played (got my first eagle there, on #8 ).

Haven't played there in over a year, though, so I don't know what kind of shape it's in now.

I have played Poplar Grove and it is fantastic. My in-laws all thought it was the nicest course they've ever played on and they've golfed at some top courses in the east and in Hawaii. While it is expensive for a game of golf, it's really a cheap deal for the caliber of course it is. $45 on weekdays I think for what should easily be $100+

that place was phenominal....just watching the "member" of the place was a blast in and of itself.

there was backwards hat, ponytail, no shirt guy who hit everything to the right and then swore for 3 minutes afterwards...there was mud terrain tire golf cart guy...

Poplar Forest really isn't all that good, but it's cheap. That being said, you can actually play 9 holes at Ivey for about the same price as Poplar Forest, so that would be my choice. Colonial really isn't a good course at all.

Yeah, it reminds me of my favorite course back home....except a lot cheaper.

It is a very nice course, especially compared to anything close to Lynchburg. It's worth the extra money to go out there at least once. It's a beautiful course. My brother worked there for a while when it first opened so we got to play for free which is always nice.

hahahahaha oh man I forgot all about that place. Funny memories. Oh man. I couldn't stop laughing about that place. It reminded of this place here that was called Sam Snead's Golf, and he visited the course a couple of years later. He threatneded to sue the place if they didn't take his name off it
