It’s too early in the morning for this

About a month ago I realized my car was leaking somewhere and letting rainwater in, but it only happens after very heavy downpours. I have yet to be able to find out where it is coming from to seal it. Well, after it raining all night long, I go out to my car this morning to head to work. As I step into the car I realize the floor of the car has about 2-3 inches of standing water. I wasn’t too surprised by this so I headed to the gas station right around the corner to fill up and vacuum the water out of the car. Well, their vacuum is broken. I figured I stop at one on the way into work.

About 6-7 minutes down the road I hear this loud crackling noise. It sounded like a bomb exploded in the back seat of my car, but the noise was constant. After almost crapping myself I realized it was the speakers in the car which sounded like they were all about to explode. I figured water must have gotten into them. I was almost to the gas station at that time, and I pulled in to vacuum the water out of the floorboard. The crackling noise only got louder and louder. I swore it sounded like my car was about to blow up. I decided I’d stop by the mechanic after getting the water out of the floorboard, but as soon as I got back in the car the crackling noise stopped. I was thinking maybe it was just a little water in the speakers and it had eventually dried up and I would just go to work instead of the mechanic. So for the next 4-5 minutes, silence. Then as I pull into the parking lot it started up again. Then stopped again.

I don’t know what to do with that piece of junk.

What if you turn your radio off. I've had a couple of cars with T-tops and those suckers always leak. And they always eventually rust through the floor pans. When ever it's raining outside, I still get a nervous type of feeling because I always used to have to worry about my car being flooded. But then I remember that I don't own them anymore.

The radio was off. This noise even was going on while the car was turned off. The radio hasn't worked for about a year now, and I'm not putting the money into it to get it fixed.

This is a 2000 Eclipse. I've been searching online, and apparently this is rather common.

My Kia does the same thing. I don't think you can do much without getting in to a major job.

The same thing with the noise coming from the speakers? Or are you just talking about the water?

uh...if the radio doesn't work, cut the speaker wires...if that doesn't fix the problems you probably have other issues to deal with.

You're the first person I've ever met that admitted to driving a Kia.

Wasn't making fun of him. I've just really never met someone who drove a Kia.

Buy a Jeep. They leak, too, but at least they have drain plugs in the floor. :rainy

When I had my Wrangler, I kept the plugs out all of the time. I got tired of putting them in and taking them out. The top on my Jeep (both of them) never leaked though. The only time I got water in it was when I'd have the top off in the rain.

I was broke, in college and had enough money for a $2000 Kia...and I'm going to drive it until it poops out.

The same thing with the noise coming from the speakers? Or are you just talking about the water?
The water...your speakers are more than likely just shorting out from the water...that seems to be the only solution.

That's the conclusion I've come to.

How the heck is a 9 year old car leaking that much water anyway? Do you have a sunroof?

Yeah I do. That's not where the water is coming from though. It's the wierdest thing. The only thing that gets wet is the floorboard.

Oh and I will never buy a Mitsubishi again.

the sunroof in my prelude would fill with water if the seal didn't catch right. and then at 6 in the morning, i'm tired as crap and i get into my car and take off it would all just pour right on my head....happened a few times...it was horrible.

Man, that's hilarious. I would like to see that. Mine would drip on my seat and it was permanently discolored so it didn't look different when it was wet. If I forgot it rained or didn't know, I'd be walking around with wet pants all morning.

i'm sure you would...

that car was awesome....

one neighbor saw it happen once...

i'm serious it wasn't a trickle either...it was like someone poured a huge glass of water on me... and it was usually cold...

luckily it was usually unseen as the words that came out of my mouth at the time were probably a hinderance to my testimony.
