It's going to be interesting to see how the GOP attempts to derail Obama's nominee...
...and if the media will portray their efforts as 'heroic', like they did for Bush's nominees.

well, Obama has to choose if he wasn't to pander to his base (and himself really), or does he want to try to get reelected 6 months in by choosing someone more moderate? I guess we hope for the latter but that does make him slightly more electable. I guess nobody would remember that in 3 years anyway.

No one will remember in a few years. The ones who wanted to make the 'Fight for the Supreme Court' a campaign issue voted for McCain, anyways.

Hopefully a moderate will get appointed, but I doubt it.

Odd how this happens just after the Dems get their potentially 60th seat in the Senate, and in Obama's first four months. That's not the most promising scenario for a "moderate" appointee.
But at least it will be a liberal for a liberal.

Yeah, because Bill and Barry were such good buddies. Not to mention he was disbarred.

yeah, i mean, hey, whats the worst that can happen - another ruth bader ginsburg? oh wait. at least she has cancer and wont be too long for the court. unfortunately, odds are she'll have to be replaced by Obama too.
and I don't want a "moderate" i want a Constitutionalist. im sick of moderates. moderate = wont stand up for what they believe in and want to compromise so they seem cool to the media and the lefties. Screw em.
but hey, now that Obummer has his 60 in the senate, and will now get to pack the court, looks like that whole freedom thing is on the ropes. not gonna be a pretty next couple of years.

I don't know that being a lawyer is a requirement, although I'm probably wrong on that. I know that being a judge is not a requirement. Besides, Bill Clinton is a white male, so that automatically disqualifies him.
One interesting thing to note, the Supreme Court is does not require nine judges to function, I think seven is the minimum. But seeing as this has happened so soon into BO's presidency, it's pretty much inevitable someone will get put in there.
I wonder when Michelle Obama's name will come up for consideration.

Hmmmm, I wonder if current Chief Justice John Roberts has anything to say about that.
It would probably something like, 'I'm not stepping down. I think you mean is 'Associate Justice William Clinton', although that's quite unlikely because Clinton wouldn't accept such a post.'
