For starters, what is with all of the people questioning his spirituality with this decision. This has ALWAYS been the most unattractive thing about LU. Just because you leave LU does not mean you are leaving GOD! I don't care what quotes he said in the past. Everyone says things such as this. Were they true at the time? Sure. But do you know God's will? Perhaps moving to take the LU job was God's will so that when Bennett came to UVa he would be in a better position to move. After all, it is easier to move an hour up the road then across country. He did not lie, he did not "take God's name in vain". he simply spoke what he felt. Life is not a staight line. If you want to complain about him leaving after only two years, the fact there were no post players worth a hoot or that the best recruit EVER (apologies to SCAR) left then so be it. But leave the spirituality out of it!
As for the position. I say that being the #2 at an ACC school is a step up compared to a head coach at a BSC. Some may argue but this is a job I would take. We can go into the state of the BSC as one sign. Sure UVa hoops is going through a down trend. (Maybe that is why they brought in someone who has a Jeff Jones type style!) But it is a step up IMO.
WHere do we go from here? I say we bring in Jeff M, Randy D and Mel H and have them has it out!! Seriously, I have always been a fan of bringing in a succesful coach as a small Christian school (There are several of both) who will see this as a step up, and be grateful for all of the advantages they now have over where they were. Getting to the top of the Big South is not as difficult if ou have experience already being successful. This type of coach would also be one to stick around for awhile and ahve the qualities and attributes that LU is looking for. BUT since that advice has NEVER been taken before I doubt it will be now. Let's bring in a big name who will either fail miserably, or leave immediately!!
Best of success to RMK. He brought LU a lot of success and we should be thankful for what was.
Multiple spelling and grammar errors while trying to sound smart just makes your post irrelevant...

I am not saying I agree or disagree with purple but want to point out that this is a message board not an english class. Please critque his argument not attack his education. This is one of my pet peaves about this board (which I mostly LOVE).

How can some critique an argument if they can not understand it due to grammar and spelling errors. I can guess that he was trying to say, but I don't know for sure...

Like this line...

"I say we bring in Jeff M, Randy D and Mel H and have them has it out!!"

Is he trying to say bring them in and have them have it out? Maybe, but it could be something totally different. I can't just jerk/u/me something...

And if you are trying to make a point in which you disagree with pretty much everyone on the board, and you are trying to correct them, at least make sure it makes sense first. This is a message board, not an english class, but if people can't write coherently enough to get their point across then they are not accomplishing anything. Read your post before you submit it! And I agree with Cider, a space between paragraphs helps a lot!

COOL, might I suggest that you look at your caffiene intake or the amount of sugar in your cereal this morning. I have re read my post, and even made some changes but to say the post is completely incomprehensible and question the educational background of the poster is sophomoric at best. I am not trying to sound smarter then anyone else on the board. (Although I am POSITIVE I have GIVEMETHEMIC beat hands down) Perhaps it is your narrow view that has kept you from seeing order in the perceived chaos. Personally, I think I did a DARN good job typing that while being on teleconference!! So actually, BONUS points should be awarded.

I am not sure what your point is with the whole grammar lesson. Are you saying that b/c there were some typo's in there that the argument is invalid? I do not have the emotional attachment that some on this board do to the coaching situation. But when I see people questioning the spirituality of someone else on such flimsy ground, then I have issues. As for my take on how we should pursue the next coach, it is a position I have stated for YEARS so that is nothing new. Do a lot of people disagree with me on the board? I am positive they do. BUT a lot of people didn't believe Galileo either!!

As for WHAT schools to look at for the next coach, who won the NAIA Div 1 tournament this year? NAIA D 2? TONS of Christian schools in the NAIA and some pretty good hoops as well. (LU seems to have had a history of struggling with those teams *cough cough* Montreat *cough cough* not that I would pursue that coach!) It would make LU see like a destination job for those coaches that toil in anonymity at lower levels. They know how to recruit against a whole lot of adversity, they know how to adapt and overcome, they know how to keep their players in line and they know how to win. IMO, this would give LU a new look to its "base" which would be Christians looking for the "Christian Notre Dame" Again, just my opinion, but can't we all have them?

Hopefully, this is easier for you too read and understand.

are we picking sides now?

well in the first line Purple used the word digest, I would have used a different word +1 Cool hand

he did talk about people at LU always questioning their spirituality which is true +1 Purple

He did talk about the success RMK brought with him which was a good closing +1 Purple

so in a split decision the winner and still champion of all the Prof's former and current is Purple Haizeeeeeeeee

Actually there are two spelling errors here. "I am not trying to sound smarter then anyone else on the board." You used the wrong word here. You should have used THAN not THEN. And you spelled Caffeine wrong. Come on, I before E, except after C! Are you sure you were a prof here?

And I am not trying to be the grammar police. I just like pointing out people's flaws when they try to school people... Whether you were trying to make yourself sound smart or not, my point is that you were correcting us, so I was just being a smart allelic and correcting you back. haha.

And for the record I didn't eat cereal this morning and I don't drink soda and try to limit my caffeine intake.

Yes, it is pretty bad to use "then" instead of "than". No prof (or is he an ex-prof) should do that.

I'm not so sure about your quoting the "i before e" rule in this case, though...

http://www.usingenglish.com/weblog/archives/000021.html

Basically the rule is that if "i" and "e" are in the same syllable and follow a "c" that is not pronounced "Sh", then they go in the "ei" order....

Plus there is this nifty little feature on this site called spellcheck and it underlines a word in red when you misspell it.

And since I am now in the business of giving out free english lessons, there is no need for your comma between case and though. Not trying to be a prick, just figured I'd point that out since I've been pointing out grammar and spelling all day...

COOL I was neither correcting anyone nor trying to "School" anyone. Just stating my view. Now if you take the view that if someone DOES leave LU they are leaving God and that God's will is linear then I can see where you could have gotten all bent out of shape about being "corrected". In the words of the great philosopher Sgt Hulka "Lighten Up Francis"!! I guess it should make me feel good that I must have "schooled" you since the only rebuttal to my argument are its grammatical errors. (Either that or you felt some type of guilty conviction in your soul!)
And for the record it is EX Prof and no it was not in English. And YES I intentionally did not put a space between paragraphs!!

You know, Luke, with an education or an English degree, you could do that kind of thing for a living and get PAID for it.
Oh, and "English" should be capitalized, since it's a language. 8)
