Has anyone on here ever done a body cleanse? A friend of mine just did one where he lost about 18 pounds. You fast 2 days out of the month and only drink shakes for those 2 days. I've heard of other ones as well that other friends have done. I'm thinking about doing it to get the toxins out of my body but wanted to see what anyone on here has tried.

Are you having a little trouble getting your jeans fastened? That's the time I usually start thinking about excessive toxins. :)

If done right they are actually a pretty healthy thing to do every now and then. The weight loss is a lot of water, but you will feel better after doing it. Probably not while you're doing it.

most of these causes your body to scream at you but can be done right.

there is a guy at work who does it yearly. after the holiday season he spends an entire 2 weeks eating food that makes him poop. grapes, apples, green veggies, herbal teas, very little carbs, and very little meat (not none ofthese things but just very little like 1 serving of each a day) drinks only the herbal teas and water lots of water and it just flushes him out....he's not starving himself and still getting some protein/fiber/carbs.

Coach Gillespie did some type of body cleanse a couple years ago. He lost something like twenty pounds on it.

toxins? I hear that thrown around a lot. What the heck kind of toxins would our body retain? And don't talk to me about cleaning out toxins in my colon. That's a joke.

I once ate some food in Cuba that cleaned me out for the following four weeks. I wouldn't recommend it though.

can someone point me to some info from an actual nutritionalist or well respected doctor that agrees with this? I'm incredibly skeptical of any of this. Mainly because all of these things are sold through goofy infomercials.

This is the most popular and has Docs that recommend it to be done 3 or 4 times a year

I'm with LUConn. Everything positive I've ever heard on the topic has come from Multi-Level Marketing nutjobs.

It's really not that hard.

Good diet and lifestyle = fruits and veggies every day, 20-30 grams of fiber, 6-8 cups of water, little to no processed food, or high sugar drinks. Eat meat and carbs in moderation. 30-60 mintues of exercise at least 5 days a week.

When you are shopping at the grocery store, avoid the center aisles. Shop only the outside aisles where fresh fruits and produce are available. Additionally, healthy dairy and low fat meats are on the outside.

If you want a diet with a name to it, look up Medittereanian(sp) diet.

I lost 20ish pounds between mid-January and the beginning of April last year doing that (not following it to a T, but the fruits, veggies, water, meat and carbs in moderation, 30-60 minutes of exercise 5 days a week). Stopped exercising towards the end of April, gained a little bit of that weight back but not a ton of it. I still fit into medium t-shirts and boxers and 32-waist jeans/shorts/pants I started squeezing into around this time last year, but I need to at least start exercising again if I want to keep fitting into them.

As for the colon detox, I'm with LUConn...highly skeptical that its good for you.

My business partner is a Medical Doctor who went to Johns Hopkins. He has a diet business (http://www.drtabor.com) so I didnt expect him to have great things to say about the cleanse. He said there was mixed studies on it and that some studies show its benefits while others still show benefits although the problem is the lack of protein and vitamins.

He said he'd support me doing it if I was to make sure my body was still getting protein via shakes and stuff and taking vitamins throughout the process.

SO THERE'S YOUR DOCTOR LUCONN!
