Hi. We're blink-182. This past week there've been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We're back. We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy.
Summer 2009.
Thanks and get ready...

dude ranch was great but they got progressively worse from there....perhaps it also has to do with my coinciding maturity but i'm not sure....i listened to take off your pants and jacket the other day actually and was like, yeah no thanks...

I liked up through Take Off Your Pants although I think Enema of the State was my favorite. I hope they go back to playing music like that instead of the self-titled album.

I don't know, I was listening to dude ranch about a week ago and thinking that it was great. Not much of a fan of anything after that. A little too poppy. I guess there were a couple of decent tracks like Adam's song.

I disagree. I loved their stuff for what it was early on, but like RubberMallet said, it's very immature.
The self-titled album dropped most of the childish stuff and saw them branch out a little. It's my favorite album of theirs. It doesn't necessarily contain my favorite songs, but as a collection it's far more solid than any of their other albums. I think it was underrated because it was a little different.

The way I look at Blink, it's immature pop punk that's absolutely great. The self-titled album was a good album, but (to me) it wasn't a good Blink album. It would've made a good Boxcar Racer/Plus 44/Angels and Airwaves album, but not Blink.
It's kind of like Relient K. They were a very sophomoric, poppy band with clever lyrics and fun music. That's what got them famous. Then, starting with Five Score And Seven Years Ago it was like Matthew Thiessen wanted to start showing off how good he was at all these different instruments and they changed their style completely. The music wasn't bad, but it's not what I think of when I think Relient K. It's what I think when I hear Matthew Thiessen and The Earthquakes.
I know bands mature and the sound changes, but there are certain elements that just make a band, especially a pop punk band like Blink.

Agree, I gave up on them when they released the album after Dude Ranch.

it won't last long, they looked like they hated eachother at the grammy's...but yes...I have always enjoyed them...they are far from the greatest musicians of all time, but they know how to write dang catchy songs
and i do firmly believe a band needs to mature or nobody will take them seriously...I am not a big fan of Green Day, but they have matured as they went on...and SJ you brought up Relient K...i respect them a lot more for changing and growing up...if they were still singing about mood rings and sadie hawkins dances, then it would just be laughable

Maturing and changing styles are two different things though. You can still play good pop punk music and have a mature sound and mature lyrics. Look at Adam's Song. That's a great pop punk song about something serious. I just think they changed their style too much on the last album.

I just saw the video. It looked like Mark and Travis were ok but that Tom didn't wanna have anything to do with them. Then again, that would explain why Mark and Travis kept playing together and Tom didn't.

I just thought it was a really awkward and out-of-sync "we're back" announcement last night, and then the audience was like "should we be impressed? should we clap? what's going on?". The whole think was kind of dumb.

I guess...i think they have changed as I have changed so it kind of has been good...but really its the last two albums that have been heading in this new direction
