Chicken Wing Shortage for the Big Game???

If you’re hoping for chicken wings to supplement your Super Bowl party, you may have to wing it.

On Thursday, a story broke that some restaurants around Buffalo were experiencing shortages of chicken wings & very high prices, causing worry among owners and wing fans alike who are hoping the issues of the Northeast do not spread further through the country.

This weekend is, of course, the Super Bowl, a weekend that accounts for 5% of all wing consumption during the year, with over 1 billion wings eaten in all.

The potential chicken wing crisis started when producer Pilgrims Pride filed for bankruptcy December 1st. Pilgrims Pride was responsible for 25% of U.S. chicken processing. Higher gas and feed prices have also led some farms to decrease production.

That's what my mom does. Whenever I get around to trying to cook them like she does that's what I'll probably do.

Anybody got any good wing recipes they want to share?

I think I am going to try this one:
Ingredients:

* 3 pounds chicken wings (16 wings)
* salt and pepper to taste
* 1 1/2 cups any variety barbecue sauce
* 1/4 cup honey
* 2 teaspoons prepared mustard or spicy mustard
* 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
* Tabasco to taste, optional

Preparation:
Rinse chicken wings; pat dry. Cut off and discard wing tips then cut each wing at the joint to make two sections. Sprinkle wing pieces with salt and pepper; place wings on an lightly oiled broiler pan. Broil about 4 inches from the heat for 10 minutes on each side, or until chicken wings are nicely browned. Transfer chicken wings to crockpot.

In a bowl, combine barbecue sauce, honey, spicy mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and Tabasco. Pour sauce over chicken wings. Cover and cook on LOW for 4 to 5 hours or on High 2 to 2 1/2 hours. Serve directly from slow cooker, keeping temperature on LOW. Makes about 30 chicken wings.

My dad makes maybe the best wings I have ever had...but the kitchen looks like the Pillsbury Dough Boy exploded after he's done with it.

My mom takes the regular wing, doesn't put anything on it, and puts it in the frying pan first with butter covering the bottom of the pan. She fries them up on both sides for about 15 minutes each. After that, she takes them out of the frying pan and puts them in a baking dish. Before putting them in the bakeware, she puts the sauce down, puts the wings in that, then covers the wings again with the sauce, and bakes them for about 30 minutes or so. The wings fall off the bone.

Trying to avoid the whole deep frying thing...although you are right...they still taste the best that way.

If it is warm enough...I may throw them on the Weber...

Edit...quick check of the weather...going to be 53 on Sunday....may be pork butt or brisket on the smoker now!

In other news, Venezuela has a toilet paper shortage because of socialism. At least we don't have that problem.

Cuba had this same problem years ago. I guess Marx didn't realize his own ideology would go down the craphole of history :lol: (if you're a nerd you get that joke).
