The 20 Worst Foods in America 2009

Can an appetizer with the caloric equivalent of 13 Krispy Kreme doughnuts be justified? No. The 2,710-calorie Awesome Blossom has been purged from Chili’s menu—maybe the fat-drenched appetizer couldn’t withstand the scrutiny of being named one of the worst foods in America last year. No matter the reason, we applaud this waist-expanding starter’s retirement.

The deep-fried onion wasn’t the only thing to withdraw from this year’s race—seven other items from 2008’s lineup have been removed from menus. That’s a step in the right direction, and it’s good news for your waistline.
Some disturbingly horrific food items on this list.

The moral of the story is don't eat at Chilli's, Macaroni Grill or Outback.

I've had two or three of the things on that list. The burger at Chili's is ridiculous. Three or four of us got it after the UVA game just to see if we could eat it. I barely could. That's saying something.

If people are buying it, why get rid of it? They're stupid, I'm so sick of the health-police limiting my menu.

I guess the term "worse" is a matter of opinion. The things on that list that I've tried are tasty and outstanding in moderation.

I have the Eat This Not That book, and according to HMO last year it made a world of difference. Here's an idea, you can eat what you like, but for those of us who don't want to clog our arteries or look like Santa Claus, let us have our guides.

Easy to say when you're not married (I always laughed when people said this...now I understand). We don't get a choice.

Why do you need a book to tell you what to eat anyways? Didn't you take health class?

Yes, but when you're on the run and need something quick, how are you going to know a Big Mac has fewer calories than a Whopper? Thats the purpose of the book, to help you when you're ordering at restaraunts. Do I follow it religously, absolutely not, but at the same time its nice to be somewhat smarter about what you're ordering.

The thing that always bothers me about the uproar about the Awesome Blossom was YES, there are a ton of calories, but NO, one person doesn't (or shouldn't) be eating it themselves. Split up among 5 people, the caloric intake is better.

People forget about managing portion sizes. You ARE allowed to take food home with you from the restaurant, you know, unless you're eating at a buffet ;)

No way, I'm an American, and I will eat the full American-size portion! If a plate of yummy goodness is put in front of me, I have to eat it all. My wife can take home her leftovers, but not I. LUConn is sissy like that, he only eats half of whatever he orders and takes the rest home.

Yes, but I HATE Subway and try to avoid it as much as possible.

If those are your two options, I think you should not be worrying about calories so much as you should be worrying about how you got into some dietary form of hell where you can only choose between two giant fast food burgers.

It was just an example, normally if I do fast food for lunch its a salad at Chik-Fil-A. But for those who do eat a Whopper weekly, switching to the Big Mac will save calories. The books covers nearly every restaraunt chain in America, so it can help.

if you're eating a whooper or a big mac weekly, i doubt caloric intake is one of your main concerns in life...
