Best renditions of the national anthem

I was watching the pregame to the NFC Championship and Jordin Sparks did the national anthem. Those of you who remember Super Bowl XLII (42) remember she did it that game too. She did an good job today but I went back and found the video of when she did it at the Super Bowl and that had to be oen of the best renditions ever that I heard, with Whitney Houston probably tied right up there in my book. Do you guys have any favorite performances of the national anthem that youve seen, whether on TV or in person?

That is easily my favorite version. Everytime I hear it reset on the radio I nearly swerve off the road into a ditch laughing.

There shouldn't be different "renditions" of it. That's the problem. Too many artists try to take the national song and turn it into something new and different when it's a song that has a certain melody and tune that shouldn't be changed.

Valid point SJ. when I say that I mean performances. I watched ther video of Jordin Sparks from the last Super Bowl and that was probably one of the best and purest performances Ive seen in a long time.

Yeah, just get up there and sing the song, don't screw up our nation's song. Respect the nation.

Thank you. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people screw with the national anthem. The song is good enough on its own. Don't mess with it!

There's exceptions to everything. Hendrix's was awesome.

Huey Lewis and the News did one for either the MLB All-Star Game or the World Series a few years back. It was phenomenal.

For NFL, the one in Tampa Bay that Whitney Houston did (dubbed or not) was one of the best.

Bruce Hornsby & Branford Marcelas at Cal Ripken's 2131 game. I can't find it on youtube but it was good.

This year's orange bowl. Arturo Sandoval. No singing nothing different just straight national anthem like it should be done. It gave me chills.

Jessica Simpson did 'God Bless America' during the 2001 World Series, back before people really knew who she was. God bless America, indeed.

Hands down though, the best rendition of the National Anthem came during the 1991 NHL all-star game in Chicago. Fans cheered during the entire song (something they usually do), but this was especially touching and heart-felt because we just announced (or we just finished up) the first Gulf War. I've never seen more patriotism in my life. It'll bring a tear to your eye.

I remember being at the Capital Centre outside Washington when the Gulf War was going on. Lee Greenwood did the National Anthrm and "God Bless The USA'. It was incredible.

i still appreciate the time when this young lady was singing in Portland and forgot the words and Mo Cheeks came to help her. That is one that I can't forget.
