I recently launched a website (http://www.citizenwes.com (shameless plug). Ultimately, I want this site to be where people can get the latest news. I want this site to be filled with commentary on the top issues of the day, from news to politics to entertainment to sports and to business. I don’t want to be conservative agitprop, but I want this to be balance for the DailyKos, MoveOn.Org, and HuffingtonPost-type blogs that litter the internet. I want people to go there and be informed, and I want people to come here and be entertained. And I want to find a way for this site to make money. In fact, if I fail at everything else except that last part, I think I’ll be pretty happy.

If anyone has any suggestions for how to make my site better, I'd really appreciate it. Hate the format? Let me know how to improve it. Am I missing something critical? Talk to me. Should I have any cool features? Tell me! Help me out!

Well right now your posting up stuff from everyone else

anyone who wants that kind of stuff uses a RSS feeder so really they wouldnt need to go to your website...I'd start getting news and start doing the content yourself...offer your opinion make some people mad...then you'll get readers

The one thing I did on my blog that got the most interest was when I did something on Joel Osteen. There are people who seem to Google certain terms, and go in and comment like crazy when they find something they disagree with.

SO -- be disagreeable. Attract attention. Link to people who lots of people read - you'll get some hits via trackbacks. Comment on what others are writing on the same subjects that you talk about. Make sure that wherever you post something, you leave a link to your site, even if it's only in your signature.

here is the most fascinating blog i visit, and all it does is post links to other stuff. you can say, "why not just subscribe to the rss feeds the blogger links to?" well what makes this blog so great is that the blogger links to such a vast array of different websites that my good reader would be virtually completely overloaded with all the different rss feeds. however, a warning must apply: although it often posts great content, some of the pictures are very NSFW, but don't let that deter you from the articles it links to. ok, I'm gonna go ahead and let those pictures deter me from ever going there to read anything. That's like saying you subscribe to playboy for the articles. You've just linked porn on our beloved website.

some of the articles I have posted on here were linked on that website, and some of those articles resulted in much discussion on this board. so what's that mean? some of the members on this board have discussed articles that appear on what you deem a porn website. what do you have to say about that?

also, I think the following websites and schools would disagree with your assertion that the quality of their work is no better than that of what appears in playboy: live science, national geographic, mental health, APA, UVA, TIME, Wired, Villanova, Cornell, Stanford, Discover, New Yorker, Georgia, Johns Hopkins, NY Times, science daily, Arizona, MIT, Nebraska, and a vast array of other legitimate websites and schools - and that's just the list of quality sources from within the past two days...
