I just read this about Vlingo

http://www.bbgeeks.com/blackberry-revie ... pin-88454/

I really need a speech software for text messages/emails and it looks like this could be the answer

How do you use it as your reader?

One is Viigo (two I's) and the other Vligo (l then I).

I haven't really kept up on the latest apps since summer. So I am anxious to hear what other offer up.

I was expecting to see some cool apps. The one HMO suggested is $25 and I would not need as I am not that popular. 8) Viigo looks cool but I don't think there would every be a time I would need it as I text and email as I drive. If you guys see any others, let me know.

So far I just use the basics : aim, google maps, flickr, facebook, etc. I also use nav4all for turn by turn directions but you've got to have gps unlocked to use it. What's everybody's blackberry pin? I don't know anybody else with one and I want to message people for free.

You know in my year and a half in the BlackBerry nation I have never used PIN. I guess I am just lazy.

Incidentally Crackberry just teamed up with Viigo for a new version that is downloading today at:

They've added a few wrinkles. If you fly much this thing is awesome to catch up on news while travelling.

That new lotion added toilet paper will take care of that annoying TwitterBerry problem, Sly.

It all depends on who you are following. I love following athletes. It tends to be more timely than their blogs and less commercial. I have been following Lance Armstrong's return to cycling in Australia and he is brutally honest about his performance. It is also how I kept up with Josh Cox's record run in Phoenix. And Rashad Jennings gives sporadic insights into draft preps and the senior bowl.

I am now the Tweethead that some on the board have become. But it is brings its own brand of cool to the table.

I signed up for twitter and didn't get it at all. Once I started following some people and utilizing search to find some people I'd be interested in following, it really took off for me. Now almost all of my real friends are using it. I'm a big fan of the way it lets us interact with each other all day, even though some of them are several hundred miles away.

This video is also a good start to understanding twitter:

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="
name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="
" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>

no thanks, Mr. Le Fever.

I really don't want people knowing what I'm doing every 5 minutes.

That, and I have no friends.

Plus- doesn't anyone WORK anymore? How you have time to update the internet every time you eat a graham cracker or take a dump?

and who cares?

maybe everyone else is just that much more important than me, so its fascinating?

you're all a bunch of freaky voyeurs.

i watched the video, and now it even further reinforces this statement: what the heck is the point?

even in the video it shows the paper person "updating" their twitter with "ack! i'm late for work." well, shouldn't you, oh i don't know, perhaps LEAVE FOR WORK instead of updating your twitter? right now, I can't even think of one single person that is worth following on a daily basis, much less a minute by minute basis.

Jonathan called out Charles for forgetting his church shoes while going out of town, and Jon learned about it from Twitter b/c Charles posted it....I sent him a message after church telling him I've never known him to forget his racquetball shoes but some how you forget your church shoes....and he messaged me back saying he actually remembered his racquetball shoes...hahah I laughed

So Sly, if I get the bold can I transfer all of my app's and have all the settings by just syncing it?

Posted: January 25th, 2009, 5:10 pm
by Sly Fox
Essentially, yes. That is why the sync is created.

I'm assuming you don't update your Facebook status then...or use Facebook at all. Just a guess.

For me following people on twitter is exactly the same as reading blogs or news sites except that the information is much more concise and often in real-time. For example, I follow CNN's breaking news alerts on twitter. If something big happens, I get a text on my phone within minutes.

I also follow all of my real-life friends which has turned out to be a great way to interact socially. For example, I can send a tweet saying "Anyone up for dinner?" and know that most of my friends will see that update instantly. I don't have to call a bunch of people and go through the phone pleasantries. I can just post a tweet and it's like talking out loud in a virtual room.

I've also met a lot of local people I wouldn't have met otherwise via twitter search and tracking functions. I now have several business contacts in Lynchburg that I met completely through twitter.

The other thing is that you guys are assuming people are talking every few minutes. That's not really how it is and most people aren't posting mundane details. At least not the ones I follow. I update maybe once or twice a day and not until I have something worth saying, unless it's a social conversation.

Another great example: An American kid in Egypt with a group working to promote democracy there was recently arrested (and not exactly in the normal arrested kind of a way). As the cops were dealing with his group, he sent a tweet from his cellphone and instantly all of his friends in the U.S. were aware of what was going on and were able to start getting him some help.

Then again, I've seen people who never get twitter and just aren't interested. That's fine. But it's worked out very well for me. I mean, where else would Rashad Jennings and I have met and had a conversation about iPhones? Worlds collide on twitter and I like it.

i use facebook everyday, i don't need others to know what i'm doing 24/7, and i don't need to know what all my facebook friends are doing 24/7 or that they recently completed the drug smuggling job on the mob wars application on there.
