OK Sly, I'm about to give in and get a blackberry....Sprint has the new Curve coming out Monday 8350i (now has wifi) but I really want the bold or strom but of course Sprint wont be getting that anytime soon. Is there anything else to hold out for that may find its way to Sprint?

It can sync to Liberty b/c they use the Exchange but I use Gmail for EVERYTHING and even have my LU fwd'd to my Gmail

What's the price on the new Curve? I'm debating whether to get it or the Instinct when I upgrade this time.

I suggest you guys check out CrackBerry.com ... it will help you see what they have in the pipeline and also help with cool apps you won't find anywhere else (usually for free).

Mrs. Sly has been on the Verizon Curve (without WiFi) and has been pleased. Sorry to hear you are stuck with Sprint. They get last dibs on most new products these days.

The new curve should be $149 but Sprint has been very tight lipped about it




I know Sly...it's tough here in Lynchburg though b/c Verizon isnt here yet and AT&T has awful reception....Verizon will be here shortly though...maybe thats when I make the switch...Sprint is just plain out of money, they cant afford exclusive contracts and we're missing out on some awesome phones like the Javlin, Bold, Storm, Iphone, Omnia and plenty of others...oh well, maybe soon enough

Perhaps a Verizon franchise might be a wise investment for someone.

Verizon and Alltel are merging, so you folks in the 'Burg will be able to get Verizon soon. I think the merger is supposed to be complete by the beginning of the year? Being a current Alltel customer, I can't wait b/c I really want the blackberry storm. Anyone here have it??? I have a pearl now and I LOVE it!

I know a guy that just got the storm, he likes it a lot but obviously has not had it long enough for him to get annoyed by anything with it (the initial awe effect hasn't worn off) or for any potential major problems to arise.

i played with a storm in our office....its ok...there are alot of things it does better than the iphone and there are things the iphone does better...

i can't believe they didn't make it be able to connect to wireless networks....3g is nice but its not nicer than a 8 meg cable connection.

You mean awful coverage. AT&T uses a GSM signal for their service, which has major problems with the penetration of buildings and foliage. On top of that, they haven't invested very heavily in their Lynchburg coverage. (They still don't have 3G service here, for example.) So, they're not doing much to improve their reputation here. Their commercials about coverage crack me up because they're pretty much just false in this area.

That worm managed to build out the best rural and southern city network in the nation and just got paid majorly for it. You said it yourself when you talked about how great their coverage and data services are here. Verizon and Alltel both use a CDMA signal, which is why they share a network here. Alltel's coverage is the best in Lynchburg, hands down. Unfortunately their prices are also the highest and they have (and always have had) a terrible selection of phones. The merger of the two benefits Alltel customers on both of those counts, but probably at the cost of customer service.

Like what? I'm seriously asking. Engadgets review of the Storm was so so and didn't seem to think it did anything better than the iPhone. They didn't think it was bad, just not quite as good. I haven't seen one in person, so I'm curious.

Im not a Mac user or Iphone carrier but I have to say there is NOTHING out there that can compete with the Iphone...the applications alone are stellar. The ONLY drawback is privacy. Text messages just pop up unlike the BB. There is nothing worse then being in a meeting and having Scorchy send me a text saying how much he misses me for the world to see.


Hopefully though the android will catch on and people will start creating Apps for that like they have the Iphone...

There are a ton of apps for BlackBerry and there will be a bunch more coming out that are Storm specific based on the touchscreen.

A worm is a worm, Scorcho. And my data services worked fine on campus a year ago long before the buyout.

scorcho, tethering/text vid/chat - better camera. not huge things. the iphone keyboard i like better even though i hate touchscreens. better gps functionality. (oh look i'm on this street) who cares, i have a 50 dollar hunting gps that will do the same thing.

i'm not in the market for either.

but in the office, the tech guys all have tilts and swear by them once set up the way they want them. the sales guys love their iphones because its stupid proof. i have a stripped down krzr because i really don't care about my email or anything else when i'm not working. it drives everyone at the office nuts....when i'm fishing i'm fishing....when i'm hunting i'm hunting, when i'm doing anything else my phone is off....some people can't live that way.

A buddy of mine got the HTC Touch Pro and loves it. He waited months for it to be released, and finally got it a couple weeks ago.

Micah, I had the krzr also. It survived a bout as my dog's chew toy, but it was no match for the washing machine last week. I'm now phone-less. I liked it because it was small, but now I think I'd like more of an email/pda functionality.

i had a smart phone from work for a year...it was the nokia et73 i think....it was awesome....but completely useless to me...typing ona phone makes me angry generally....a touchscreen just amplifies the anger...i have man hands....so the storm doesn't do anything for me.

they should be able to rework that and fix it via firmware. just like the iphone problems.
