What would a Christmas season be without a good James Bond flick. Saw it yesterday so thought I would share my thoughts!
I REALLY liked this one. (And unlike the observation from one sarcastic poster about concert I HAVE actually seen Bond film's I don't like) If you have gotten over the fact that the franchise is going in a different direction you should find this a solid movie. I loved Casino Royale (except when they totaled the Aston Martin) I have read alot of criticsm about QOS and have to agree with some of it but dont' think it destroys the movie. Criticisms:

1. No "Q" Moneypenny or "Bond, James Bond". They say they couldn't find a place for them. This is bunk, with the exception of Moneypenny. There is ALWAYS room for a line, especially one as iconic as that! THere were several scenes where there is a nameless techie tracking Bond which could have easily been "Q". It would have given the character more depth and longer life rather then just cameo's.

2. Editing. Maybe I am getting older, but some of the early editing of the car chase and fight seemed WWWAAAYYYYY to quick. My mind was saying "Hey that looked cool, I think, what just happened, did he........WOW lookat THAT...." and was never able to fully enjoy the scenes. Hopefully this is a fad similar to the 90s when Jon Wooo made everything in s l o w m o t i o n. TO me it ruined some absolutely incredible stunts.

3. The story line was sketchy but in the grand scheme of things is very good. IT gives us a new Evil Coalition similar to SPECTRE in the early ones, which in turn can give the films more continuity. And lets' be honest, how many people go to Bond films for the stories. THat is like saying FUMBLE reads "those" magazines for the articles!

4. The Bond girls are hot but not Runway Model hot. This films Bond girls were ones that you could sit in your seat and say "On my best day I MAY have a chance with them." There was one clever name but you never knew what the WHOLE name was until the credits rolled. Very disappointing. There was also no chemistry with either of them. Not sure how to overcome that.

Ok so those were my criticisms. BUT the producers said that they were going to phase in Q Moneypenny and the line so I will give them the benefit of the doubt on that one. I also am really liking Craig as the new Bond. Had they continued in theline they were going, he would have been a horrible choice, but now that they are going in this direction I like him.
I give it 3 out of 4 stars. Def a must see!

If you are really liking Craig, why not have him as an option in the poll?

Thanks for the review. I haven't seen this newest release so I will reserve judgement.

As for the quick editing, it is often done to creatively generate excitement without the expense of making it look realistic in real time.

Yeah, even though this is only Craig's second attempt, he should be on the poll, given how amazing Casino Royal was. I'll be seeing this one Thanksgiving weekend.

I read some reviewer who is ticked because Bond is not an action hero, but they've turned him into one. And that he's now no different than characters like Jason Bourne or Mission Impossible dude.

Connery- without a doubt.

And if you disagree with me, you are wrong and couldn't be more delusional.

Or, too young to remember him as "Bond...James Bond." Were our current students even BORN when Connery was playing James Bond?

Never Say Never Again. He played Bond in the early 80's. That's as recent as it goes.

so then to answer the question no. You have to remember we have freshmen and some sophomores now who were born in the 90's

during the holiday season, one of the cable networks- I believe it's Spike, has a 7 days of Bond marathon thing where they play all the movies in the series. Have seen it on AMC as well.

Fan-freakin'-tastic

hope they do it again this year.

As for the poll, Lasenby and Dalton both were lousy IMHO. So it is easy to eliminate them.

Connery was smooth and more in line with the Craig rendition than most would acknowledge.

Moore is the man who took the character over-the-top inspiring all of the copycats including Austin Powers. He made Bond fun and not just cool. That said, his last few attempts made it preposterous.

Off the list, Connery & Brosnan are my favorites. Pierce sort of incapsulates all of the different personas from the smooth persona of Connery to the wit of Moore.

Frankly, I really enjoyed Craig in Casino Royale even though it didn't seem very Bond-like to me. Perhaps this flick will sway me more.

And I rarely agree with Medic, but I like his choices in this thread.

I love Sean Connery! He is still gorgeous - if not more! I have only seen one Bond movie and don't remember a thing about it but him.

Bond movies played an important role in my time at LU. Every Friday night, a bunch of us would crash at my girlfriend's house (the benefits of dating a townie) and watch Bond movies. By the time I graduated, I think I'd seen them all.

If you think of what James Bond is -- suave, sophisticated, technologically savvy and with a combination of brains & brawn, I think Pierce Brosnan is it. However, if you're talking about who did the best depiction of James Bond (saying the character doesn't have to meet any definition), I'd say Sean Connery. I mean seriously, Sean Connery!*

*Daniel Craig was awesome in Casino Royale. I haven't seen Quantum of Solace yet, though.

I had put Craig on the list (He was last as I did them Chronologically)
My vote is Brosnan. He was everything people thought Bond was. However, my favorite Bond movie was For Your Eyes Only.

I'm pretty sure of all the dumb things I've ever done in my life, that's the one I wish I could take back. I'm totally sorry, now let's never talk about it again.

You will all bow down. I voted Daniel Craig.... I didn't even want to see Casino Royale b/c I hate James Bond movies, but he made a believer out of me. But I didn't like Quantam of Solace.... boring.
