I have tried to move past the disappointment today, but the policies this socialist and his socialist friends in the senate and house will impose on us will not let me be. So open your wallet and be ready to have "an attitude of service and sacrifice". It didn't take him long to say that last night!

shut up. So if a hobo walks in your house and takes your TV, you're cool with that?

As a Christian, shouldn't you be doing that yourself and not having the government force you to do it? And how about as an American?

i do think i should and i do. i dont' think the gvt should force people to. i do think the gvt should have some role in it though. there are plenty of people not afforded the things i have been afforded in life. i dont' think people should get free handouts and sit on their duffs but i have no problem getting help to those who truly need it. I have no problem with a kid in harlem getting a scholarship over a kid in orange county. i feel as a christian and as an american its out duty to take care of each other.

my problem with the democrats and unfortunately the republicans anymore, is that help doesn't go to the people the need it which is why i oppose it from a political standpoint. i support the idea but not the current system. and the republicans is the party that i think will be the first to change it if ever.

last time i checked it was illegal to break into my house, and it was illegal to steal my tv. i also believe in consequences for your actions. if the gvt raided my home took my tv and handed it to a hobo. Then yes i would have a problem. some may say that is what theoretically is already happening and to them i laugh.

i dislike the way the gvt operates when it comes to these appropriations but i don't disagree that something should be done.

Isn't a "hobo" a 1960s term for a homeless person? When did hobos get houses? :dontgetit

I thought a hobo was someone who jumped on freight trains for rides and lived in rail cars?

Regardless, the church has dropped the ball big time if its the government we rely on to help the poor.

Under Bush we all got "Stimulus checks" redistribution of wealth, we "nationalized banks", we "nationalized insurance companies", we "nationalized brokerage houses", and we gave trillions in welfare to Iraq.

and you think socialism is starting under obama???? wake up. nothing is changing.

thats another point i wanted to make

it is a hit on the church that the gvt attempts to do this. too much complacency in the church. "hey i go every sunday and put in an offering, thats enough" i do it. we all do at some point.

i can almost guarantee that those who consider themselves christ followers tithe on average as a whole much less than 10% of their gross income.

i've got no proof of that and its an assumption but i truly believe it to be more than likely the case.

Not everyone got checks.

Bush has never been a true fiscal conservative even though he lowered taxes. However, there is a fundamental difference in providing "stimulus checks" and having a belief that income should be redistributed. It does not work. The expected increase in taxes is going to be too much for our economy to bear. I had multiple conversations with employees today letting them know that we will be downsizing our company. Try telling the bread winner in a family the month before Christmas that they are losing their job. But hey, the increased taxes of the company's profits will be going to help others less fortunate.

RubberMallet, being a Christian has absolutely nothing to do with you being willing to have your "tax dollars going to those less fortunate than" you.

If anyone wants to argue for increased taxes, welfare, national health care and income redistribution, start with one (only one is needed) example of a place where it has been successful. You will not find it. If you don't understand Marxist/Socialist/Communist objectives and talking points, you need to start learning. If you don't, you'll start spouting off crazy ideas like "as a christian i'm unopposed to my tax dollars going to those less fortunate than me. "

I don't post in these forums often- because I'm really not supposed to have a public political view thanks to my job.

But, I have to say this much:

the point is well made that maybe things won't change as much as we are afraid- Bush really was NOT that conservative.

HOW-EV-UH: the biggest difference I've seen between a centrist Repub and Left -wing Lib (though their policies may be similar) is that you don't hear the "our country sucks- we should be more like France" mantra coming from the GOP.

I don't mean from the talking heads- you won't hear Obama say that on CNN- I'm talking grass roots types. I hear it alot from my Dem friends who don't care WHAT gets changed- just that our country is going to hell in a handbasket thanks to the Republicans and we need to change "our whole system of government" to fix it. This is code for "become like Europe" and THAT bothers me. Of course Europe likes the idea- of course "he" is popular over there... you always like to see the big kid on the block knocked down a peg or two, and if the rest of the world sees the US regressing to become just another link in the "global economy" that's great for their standings.

We're going to derail our national industry to comply with global pollution standards while China is literally a toxic waste dump- on fire. Genius idea. Anyone think of calling THEM on this one? (I don't have the number- I think its a 666 extension)

New-world order, indeed. The sad part- that started with Bush #1.

no I dont think there is a fundamental difference. there is a difference in scale but not a difference in principle. the stimulus checks were wealth redistribution period. even if it was just once the principle is the same and it is still wrong!!

dont miss the larger point. we have been on this path for a long time and now we are just at the conclusion of it. the only shock here is that it is happening so soon.

All true. Be like Europe. Hey, when was the last time any European country, or for that matter, any country outside of Africa and the Carribean, elected a black man to high office? Oh, wait, that's never happened. I guess that's another battle they let us fight for them, or they caused us to be less racist.

Medic, just because you are Jonny Law doesn't mean you can't have a political voice. Come on dude, don't let them beat you down into silence. Go get the bad guys, celebrate with a doughnut, and stand up for what you believe!

I am thinking that we are in agreement on this. I believe the stimulus checks were socialist in nature. If they were returned in proportion to the taxes that were paid, that would have been a true reinvestment stimulus. There are too many socialist ideas that have crept into our federal system (welfare, subsidized industries, etc....), but to hear a leader of our country, especially the future POTUS state that as a goal we need to redistribute is a fundamental difference.
