All of the democratic nominees declined the chance to speak here. Every single presidential candidate from both parties was invited to speak here.

Of course I know that Jon, but thats a bogus answer. Why do you think they would decline such an honor to speak before Liberty students? Sure Liberty gave them the chance, because they're required to under law, but its like if you were invited to a party or something where you know everyone doesn't like you, but they're required to invite you, would you show up?

To me its no secret why they would decline...they want to go talk to people that they can win over to vote for them, and they don't want to go into a hostile enviroment. Which begs the question, why as a christina college should this be a hostile enviroment? Shouldn't we as christians be civil enough and tolerant enought that anyone can come in and talk and students would be able to respect what he or she said?
What Liberty truly needs is a democrat that has the guts and isn't afraid of a few boos and comes in here and calls Liberty's bluff and takes them up on the offer they're required to make. That would truly shake Liberty up and send tremors throughout campus!

That's what Liberty wants. We want someone to come in and have the balls to speak in front of our students. None of the current candidates have it in them to stand up to people that don't like them. It wasn't a bluff. They were legitimately invited.

Liberty students will listen to opposing opinions. They will disagree with them, but as a whole, they'll listen to them. The founder of this school had a ton of people he disagreed with but he was still cordial to them and even friends with some of them.

This might be the dumbest thing I have ever heard. By offering Democratic Candidates an opportunity and them not accepting or pursuing a chance to speak here doesnt mean Jerry Jr. is telling anyone how to vote. Im actually surprised that there hasnt been more of a swing for one candidate or another. This is not a political debate University. Its still convocation and it just so happens that the people that have enough morals to speak to this University are republican. If you want to kill, lie, cheat, steal, and do everything else that is morally not correct how are you going to come to the Christian University and speak? Maybe they dont come because they know they dont agree with what we stand for and dont want to face that. I guarantee there are plenty of secular colleges who have invited Obama or Clinton or numerous other Democrats and not even invited the republicans, but we invite them here. If Jerry were telling people who to vote for you would See Obama or McCain signs on campus...

It sounds to me like your making a generalization of all democrats with this statment, are you? maybe your even insinuating that Obama does some of this stuff since were talking about why some canidates didnt come to talk at Liberty. If you are, you know you can't say that and not get criticized for it!

May I remind you that some of the most crooked and despicable politicians of the recent past have been republican. Pres. Richard Nixon, Mark Foley, Randy Cunningham, Scooter Libby, Former Republican house majority leader Tom DeLay, oh and how could we forget Sen. Larry Craig of Idaho with his foot tapping and Senator Ted Stevens of Alaska. All were republicans and all were crooks.

That being said I know democrats arent without fault either and I could write a list of scandels involving Dems as long or longer than this but the point I'm making is you can't say that because someone is a member of one party over the other that their morals are better somehow!

Joel, send Obama an email if you got a beef with him not coming here. It's not the institution's fault if he doesnt come.

We are told as Christians how to vote as Christians: For the values and morals that make up who we are in Christ. If it means McCain and not Obama, then thats what it is.

uhhhhhh

That's because if we dont get this straightened out soon, punishment is coming to our nation.

Well Im sure Nixon would be greeted with the same open arms that Obama gets. My whole point of this thing is you are saying that Jerry is telling people who to vote for and thats dumb... Confront me all you want about it, it doesnt change the facts that someone who doesnt believe what the majority of people do here will be right when he walks in the doors. as Christians we are supposed to welcome them and we did, once they get here they are fair game and it wont be a CNN Debate!!!... And Huck is a preacher so of course hes going to show up here just like Jerry Vines and the rest.

With what youre saying we should let Wright, homosexual supporters, mass murderers, rapists, OJ Simpson, Michael Jackson, any of them come speak at LU. I just cant wait for Sharpton and Jackson to come speak! Freedom of speech in our convocation! WHOO HOO!

If its so hostile and no democrat would ever speak here why did Kennedy speak here a few years ago? An intelligent Politician goes into places where he needs to win votes to try to win them. Barack declining to speak here doesnt show that hes scared of a few college kids who dont know why they are voting republican, it just shows he doesnt care

For that reason alone, I'm surprised Hillary didn't take us up on our offer last Spring.
