McCain sitting around with a stupid smirk on his face...and Obama is eating his lunch. What do you call it...the last desperate acts of a dying (man) campaign? If McCain gets 40% of the national vote, I will be shocked. Those who criticized McCain early on in the primary process were dead on. Huckabee or even Romney would have run better head to head. Perhaps McCain's best shot would have been if Clinton had won the Dem nomination.

are you watching the same debate I am? McCain has him on the mat right now. A lot of stuff has been petty campaign whining but Obama is really getting it handed to him.

McCain has had a couple of moments, but Obama has pretty much run rings around him. I agree, I think this election is over. Obama has been clear, concise, while McCain keeps acting like a whiner.

This has been by far the most entertaining debate, that's for sure. Props to Sheiffer.

Joe the plumber is really getting a lot of play tonight. I keep expecting them to play his music and him run out of the back room and hit Obama in the head with a folding chair.

Luckily, college students rarely ever vote, and a good majority of those "voting" for obama are college students. Although, since campuses are so dangerous without concealed carry laws, maybe more students will go vote to get out of the hostile environment if even for a few minutes.

I agree... Obama was cool, calm, and collective.... Yes McCain had a great line tonight... But I think this is Obama's to lose...

Even if McCain hit everything he could, Obama just needed to not cry and he had it in the bag.

I don't think Obama won handily, but he didn't have to. All he needed to do was match McCain tonight, which he did easily, and he wins. This election isn't going to be close. To me, McCain comes across as an arrogant old man. The choice of him to be the candidate along with the Palin choice says a lot about the state of the GOP, in my opinion.

my favorite Obama line..."100% of McCain's ads have been negative"...was he honestly saying that?? Both campaigns have had their share of negative ads...but come on Obama...100% of McCains ads negative!!??

Obama can talk his way out of anything...and he did, for the most part tonight

as someone previously touched on, Obama is absolutely BANKING on the youth and the african-american (or whatever you want to call them) crowd. these two demographics have ALWAYS historically had low voter turnout, ALWAYS. Will this trend change this year or will it stay the same? if it stays the same, which in previous years it has despite tons of efforts to get the youth out to vote, then it's going to be a heck of a lot more difficult for Obama to win the race.

I think Obama is probably going to win...but it is far from over...yes there is one poll that has Obama out in front by 12 percentage points...but most polls show Obama with the kind of lead both Kerry and Gore enjoyed, and we all know how that turned out....

Pretty much any explanation he gives sounds very similar to what kind of essay I would write in college about a topic I didn't know anything about. I loved essay tests. You couldn't fail. Just give lots of generics. Throw in some things you do know are true and try and relate them and do it all in such a way that you don't sound stupid and you win.

looking back, McCain didnt show me a lot the last 2 debates....tonite was by far his best IMO and won this hands down....the others could have been toss ups although being a Rep I gave them to McCain

People have said the same thing in the apst and what happened? Same thing as every other year. I expect nothing different this year. All these folks can make all the efforts they want, but until they make these demographics care about politics then it won't change as far as I see it.

I think McCain did well by making Obama explain his relationship with Ayers and ACORN. Obama may not think they are a big deal but those two carry negative feelings in the eys of many voters and associating Obama was a good "right-hook" (keeping with the boxing analogies).

Obama just came across as snide and arrogant. He had the goofiest grin on his face every time McCain was speaking.

So let's get this straight, Obama won the debate because he looked smooth? Is this how shallow it's become? McCain called him out on issue after issue (finally), and all Obama did was lie about every single one. And he lied repeatedly about McCain's stances. But he looked good doing it, right? And repeating LUConn, rarely did he give an answer that had substance. And the worst part is that he will totally get away with it. He has had to deal with absolutely no accountability with the mainstream press.

Like HMO said, this was by far McCain's best debate (not including the Rick Warren thing), but he should have been doing this since the beginning.
