I just wanted to make all of you aware of a piece of legislation you can be a part of becoming law.

A high school buddy of mine was killed in Iraq in late 2005 and his dad has been on a mission to introduce the new "Honor and Remember" flag to preserve the memories of those who lost their lives fighting for this country.

They are looking to get 1.6 million signatures on the online petition. It's worth a couple of minutes to get something of this value passed.

Four months to the day of the unveiling on May 26th of the Honor and Remember Flag, House Bill 7111 was introduced into the congressional record by Representatives Thelma Drake and Randy Forbes. HR7111 officially recognizes the Honor and Remember Flag as an emblem representing all those who died in military service to our nation.

Serious question. Isn't this exactly what the Red stripes are for on our nation's flag? I think I remember learning that the red stripes represent the courage, valor, blood, and the life of the soldiers that fought to protect it. I'm all for another flag but this made me think.

Apart from the numbers of stars and stripes representing the number of current and original states, respectively, and the union with its stars representing a constellation, there is no legally defined symbolism to the colors and shapes on the flag. However, folk theories and traditions abound; for example, that the stripes refer to rays of sunlight and that the stars refer to the heavens, the highest place that a person could aim to reach.
