For those of you on twitter, I've created an Unofficial Liberty Twitter page.
http://twitter.com/libertyu
As of now, I've got a program running that automatically posts the scores of all the LU sports. It's still in beta, but it would be great to have some feedback. Let me know what you think.
For those not on twitter [
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twitter]:
Twitter is a free social networking and micro-blogging service that allows its users to send and read other users' updates (otherwise known as tweets), which are text-based posts of up to 140 characters in length.
Updates are displayed on the user's profile page and delivered to other users who have signed up to receive them. Users can receive updates via the Twitter website, instant messaging, SMS [text message], RSS, email or through an application such as Twitterrific or Facebook.
I've thought about adding 'splash page' announcements, but this might be a bit of overload with posts.

I can try, but I'm having a hard time finding the results anywhere online. Do you know of a site?

I'll see what I can do, but who knows how soon they update it after a win.

Ok this has caused me to sign up for twitter!
Is there anyway to get a text message only when this sends out the scores and updates?
EDIT: Never mind, found it! This is much easier then I thought it would be...

Twitter is fun.
Especially if you use something like twhirl or TweetDeck to post. TONS easier than using Twitter's interface.

I read the wiki on twitter but what's the purpose? Why is this any better then my status updates on facebook?

Well, I don't know about others, but for me, I like getting the updates via text message. they're fairly instantaneous. also, facebook updates can be longer than the standard 165 characters for text messages. twitter keeps the posts within the 140 character length so that you can get one text message for a post.
really, there's not a big difference than a status update, to the point that the twitter facebook app allows you to update your status using twitter.
don't know about why others use it, but for this
http://www.twitter.com/libertyu, it's a heck of a lot easier to update than the facebook status (you'd have to create an account or page, write some convaluted script that works with the horribly documented facebook api and pray that it works). the twitter script took me all of three hours to code, facebook would take about three days (or so i would think)
anyway, my two cents worth

random note, my username that ive used since 9th grade, qkslvrsrfrboy, is such a random name, yet its taken on twitter. this is the first time in seven years that my name has already been in use by another user.(also, saying that 9th grade was seven years ago makes me feel old, it doesnt seem that long ago. guess i have alot of that to be looking forward to though huh)

I've never really understood the appeal of twitter either.

So, I've created a facebbok profile for this project. if you add this 'person' as a friend you will get the status updates (which will update via the twitter feed); it will show up in your news feed (on your home page)
http://www.new.facebook.com/profile.php?id=1509235782
Or search for "Liberty Updates". Picture of Demoss is the profile pic.

Added Liberty Journal updates as well (provides title and link to story)
Don't know how long the Facebook profile will last. Facebook itself doesn't really care for non-people to have profiles (which i tend to agree with, they prefer groups or 'fan' pages), but there's really no other way to easily integrate this. Guess I'll look into a more long term solution

Any thoughts on News and Advance articles on LU? I know they at least have a sports section (online) devoted to the school...

if you don't already have a Twitter account, set one up. Then you have to set up your mobile phone with it (it should be in the settings) (should be fairly easy, you put in your phone number, it sends a confirmation code to your phone, you put that code in the website where it prompts you for it). After that, you would follow
http://www.twitter.com/libertyu and turn mobile updates on
let me know if you stlil have problems
