For any of us still in Virginia, big debate tonight between the ex-governors for the US Senate. Mark Warner and Jim Gilmore go at it at 7:00.

Looks like Warner is killing Gilmore in the polls, which I don't get. What's happened to this state? Is it a combination of the lack of intelligence in the southwest combined with the boom of liberals in the northeast?

The GOP had their shot, and blew it! They didn't do the job in the way they were elected to do it, even with a majority for nearly 4 years! From 2002-2006, they should have hammered the Democrats, and passed conservative legislation! Instead they chose to play it safe.

It is the Democrats turn, and I doubt they will be as kind as the GOP.

This is probably frustration talking, but I CANNOT stand the GOP right now!

My buddy put the presidential race into perspective for me. He said:
This election we have a choice of two people driving toward a cliff. One is going 45 mph and the other is going 25 mph. Which one are you going to choose?
I'm glad that I believe in a God that has this all under control, or I may have checked into a mental facility by now! Hopefully this is the last election we spend here on earth! (or maybe even before the election)

Debate Summary

Gilmore: Bailout = Bad => Warner = Bad

Warner: Hi, I'm Barak Obama, with a record.

I thought Gilmore was far superior in this debate, but man did he harp on the bailout and "high-rollers on Wall St" (when are Republicans going to actually be honest about the cause of this thing, it's not just Wall St). But he had an answer for every question, responded well to everything Warner said, and actually pledged to not seek any earmarks while in the Senate, whereas Warner said earmarks are necessary.

I was in college when Gilmore was in office, so I didn't really pay attention to Virginia politics then and have no idea how he governed. But I would love him to represent VA in the senate.

Gilmore needs Warner to go "macaca" if he wants a tiny chance of being elected. That still might not do it.
