Fellas,

I am very very lucky to be able to type this message! I was in a horrible accident yesterday on my way back to Lynchburg from Richmond. I was in the right lane going very slow because visability was near 0 and the rain was coming down in buckets. Many folks were pulled over on the side of the road and many were pressing forward. Being anxious to get back, I decided to go on. After about 15 minutes the rain subsided and things were pretty much back to normal but the street was wet. I came to a point in the street where the water was up to about halfway on cars so I decided to slow down. The cars in the passing lane threw water up on my vehicle so high and so intense that I couldn't see a thing so instinctively I hit the breaks to slow down even more. Unfortunately I hydroplaned and went into the median where I tumbled a few times according to witnesses. When my Trailblazer finally got back on 4 wheels, it was in traffic and facing the opposite direction so I had to hit the break again and take evasive action by turning into the shoulder of the road in a ditch! Believe it or not fellas I came out of that without a scratch!!!!!! People were looking at me like I was a ghost or something and kept asking me if I was ok. I said I think so, look at me. I know when my moment of truth finally comes I will be ok because instinctively I was not cussing or screaming but I was calling on the name of Jesus the whole time. I actually was not scared but I really felt like I was cacooned in safety. I know that sounds cliche' and wierd but it is really true. The Paramedics came as as precaution and took me away on a stretcher. PaMedic never told me how uncomfortable those boards and restraints are! Man that was crazy. They strapped me in and wouldn't let me help them get me on the stretcher. That was the toughest part of the accident besides the bumpy ride there and then having to call Mrs. SCAR from the medic's cell phone. My cell phone was lost so Big Smooth and GMTM, I owe you both phone calls but I don't have numbers anymore. That stinks because without the phone, I don't have my chip which gets me all my numbers and text messages! The crazy thing about this is that Mrs SCAR kept telling me to be careful on the road because statistically we both feel like we are on the road so much that something was bound to happen. Well I am glad I got that out of the way and I hope to never go through something like that again! The Lord is good and I am grateful to be able to use my hands and my mind to talk to you guys here on Flamefans....

Wow! Talk about your wakeup calls. Sometimes God lets things like this occur to remind us that we are not invincible and that we are not in total complete control of our lives. Thankfully he was able to get that message across without having to give you injuries to get your attention. (OK, I'm prepared for the theological minds of this board tor ip me to shreds).

As someone who commutes around an hour each direction to work everyday, I share the same concerns about safety. All we can do is be cautious and leave the rest with the one who IS in control.

Praise God that you came out OK.

Hope you listened to "every mother's advice" and had clean underwear on (although after a couple of flips, that was probably a moot point, as well).

Don't plan on doing anything for a while. You will feel a lot worse in a day or two when your muscles loosen up.

WOW! good to hear you walked away (or could have!) I was working thru that storm up here and it was brutal. No visibility at speed is bad in an ambulance too, trust me.

actually, statistically: the barrel-roll type accident is the best to have because you dissipate kinetic energy rapidly. That and the fact that you were in an SUV makes all the difference. And restrained (seatbelt) I'm assuming. I would have definitely cut all your clothes off and started two big IVs just to be sure :D

Kidding- actually, up here we may not have even boarded and collared you seeings as you were self-extricated and walking around- but its good to err to the side of caution. And yeah- those long spine boards are brutal. Hopefully you got taken off quickly once you made the ED.

again, good to hear you're fine. God bless ya bro!

Well Medic let me tell you I would have rather rode in the bus with the medics in the front seat instead of that aweful ride on the board! As far as wakeup calls go, I am always aware of my mortality. Mrs SCAR thinks I am a bit morbid at times but I have seen so much death in my lifetime (family, friends, witnessing actual shootings, classmates that died young etc.) that I am always conscious of life in general and how precious it is. I used to tell my wife how lucky we were that we didn't have to deal with terrorism like they do in Israel (this was prior to Sept 11th 2001). Those folks are subject to random bombings in malls and movie theatres and the next day the malls and theatres are packed. I was in DC during Sept 11th and I remember going out 2 days later and I could count the cars on the road going both ways in a matter of seconds. No one wanted to go anywhere for fear of an attack (which is really more of a phobia statistically I guess)...I was told I would be sore today and over night but I had a great night of rest and I have prayed for peace of mind and not replaying the accident over and over in my head and so far I have been spared that mental anguish that you hear so much about after trama...I will say that I had to stop in ATrain's neck of the woods on my way home because I was too shaky watching Mrs SCAR drive in the rain past the very spot I just flipped hours before. We went to Applebees in Farmville and I had some food and conversation and I was fine the rest of the way. I don't drink but if I did, I would have ordered a different kind of Tea than the Rasberry I had last night.

Praise God you were able to walk away...and to everyone on here: WEAR YOUR SEATBELT. We don't need a tragedy like what happened to the photoeditor of the Champion. And if anyone is in Farmville after the 8th (I'm currently still at LU in summer school), feel free to give me a call.

WOW SCAR - That same thing about happened to me ( the wipping out in the rain) Man it was like driving through Hurricane Katrina's sister yesterday. I was fortunate to be behind a couple of semi's on 360 so that really helped with visibility. Where did you wipe out? On 307 the creek had already risen up over the road. Hopefully you had a big meal the night before or something, probably saved your life by weighting your car down more!!! :D

Glad you are alright man! But by the grace of God would I have gone!! I do have one problem with your story though. I have a difficult time believing people thought YOU were a Ghost!!! :D

Thanks to the Sportscritic, BJ and others that have left me their contact info. Keep it coming if you will. I would prefer an email because this PM thing can get jammed up pretty fast and take up your memory. Thanks again guys. Smoothie, I wasn't ignoring you bro, I just didn't have any way to contact you. :) I should be back in business on Monday though.

Guys, thanks for sending me your contact info for those that did. However I paid a visit to the wreckage to recoup the rest of my valuables and I found my cell phone wedged between the windshield and the dash. It is a new razor phone so it fit in there perfectly! So I didn't have to get a new phone and all of my numbers are in tact. I am truly lucky to be alive as I looked at the wreck I realized that the only part of the SUV that was not damaged was the drivers part. Had anyone else been with me (Mrs SCAR) they would have been hurt for sure. I am truly blessed!

I didn't get a replacement phone Medic. I was able to salvage this one. It had a lot of glass in it and it got wet over the weekend but it is a durable phone I guess...Medic, you need to stay away from the Photoshop man! I have been checking out your handi-work on other threads. You need some more folks up in PA to start driving like me so you have something to do with your spare time.

Well it is official. The Trailblazer is totaled. No chance of repair. I am not surprised given what it went through. Now we have to buy a vehicle within the next couple of weeks. I don't know if we will get another SUV though with gas being what it is and the fact that there are no little SCARs running around just yet. I think another Maxima may be in the garage real soon.

buy it back from the insurance company and take it and get it fixed, then keep it or sell it....you'd be shocked how much money you can make from doing that...I've done that several times and each time never made less then 5k

but it's important to have someone there that knows what they are looking at in order to know you'll get good value
