A fire in an electrical room around 11 a.m. today has caused Liberty Christian Academy to close for the remainder of the day.

Students were evacuated from the building and are in the process of being sent home. Parents can pick students up from the LaHaye Student Center.

Lynchburg Fire Marshal Greg Wormser said the blaze in the electrical room was extinguished; the amount of smoke sparked the evacuation of the school and the nearby offices of Thomas Road Baptist Church.

No injuries have been reported.

The fire shut down phones and computers for LCA and Thomas Road Baptist Church.

Wormser said the building will be closed for the remainder of the day because of the effect of the fire on the school’s electrical system.

Liberty's main website, libertyflames.com, Blackboard, e-mail, clean access and whatever else seem to be down campus-wide.

But, thankfully, flamefans.com still works from the 3rd floor of DeMoss on the main campus. :typing

I saw all of those little boogers marching over to the ice rink. I figured they were on some kind of field trip.
