I know that this is the "correct" RAM but when I replace one of my 1gb sticks with the 2gb stick it will do the following. In the first bay it will beep some and not turn on then I put the 1gb stick back and replace the other and then I get the startup screen but it will not advance....what am I doing wrong?

Some machines require identical RAM in both slots. That might be what's happening here. It can sometimes be difficult to find out if that's the case for your system. Tech support for the PC manufacturer should have that information - but doesn't always.

If you can easily get a second identical 2gb piece of memory and install it that might be the easiest way to try it out and see if it solves the problem.

Good luck.

I keep the 1gb stick in the other side...would it be a problem if I had 1 2gb stick and 1 1gb stick in? Would 2 2gb sticks work?

There are many variables. From what you've said it seems like 1 2gb and 1 1gb stick at the same time may be the problem.

I would try 2 2gb sticks. The only way to know for sure if it will work is to try it. Try getting an identical 2nd 2gb stick (from some place like Staples where you can return it if needed) and put the 2 2gb sticks in and see if it works. If I was trying to fix this problem for a customer that's what I would try.

Let us know.

this shouldn't be an issue unless you are using the dreaded RIMM ram...
