Got mine this morning as well.

We are going to DC tomorrow. My wife doesn't know the deposit has gone in the account. So, I'm going to "pay" for everything when she shops tomorrow. I'll score the much needed "husband points". It's a win-win situation for me.

Win-win? Except you still have to go shopping with the wife.

Do the quotes mean you'll be paying with the 5-finger-discount?

My wife wants to have separate checking accounts. So, she has her money & I have mine. I've tried to change her mind on this, but to no avail. Let's just say her experience in financial balance for families, while growing up, was less than perfect.

Blwall, a good compromise might be to do what we have done: have a shared checking account but separate savings accounts for each spouse. That way, if one of you is a saver and the other is a spender, it works out perfectly.

I tired that route as well. She says, "what's the difference in that & what we're doing now? That'll just be more of a hassle to set up accounts."

Got ours today. 1800.

Payin' off debt. I figure that way it will actually help the US economy, rather than the Chinese economy.

Just got the notification that it went through on the 9th. Funny story: My wife asked what a Stimulus Package was for and I told her that half the money had to be spent at Adamandeve.com and I had to use the rest of the money at Strip Clubs. Government orders and all! (Or was that to buy a new sofa? I get SOOO confused)

My wife insists on having a joint account... unless it's the money she earns doing her part-time job. That's her money to spend on her frivolous things.

(No, I'm not allowed to have my own account for my own frivolous spending. Yes, I make more than she does).

Replace Smither's with your wife and there you go...

Ouch! Finances are the runaway number one reason for divorce. And separate accounts only feed into the tension. But that's just this grizzled Old Hag's perspective.

Two words, Ed: man up. Just open up your own account.

Or, just keep a wad of cash in a quart-size Mason jar in your tool box or tackle box.

We got ours and it is going into savings and to pay off debt.

I have my own checking but only because I pay for certain bills like tuition and insurance and then my hubby does not have to worry about it. He can spend as much as he wants on paintballs, guns, PS2 stuff, etc. I am very frugal so it is good I don't really know how much he makes.

finally got ours...

I haven't been married long, but its weird to think about not sharing a checking account...but hey whatever, its probably best for each couple to figure out what works best for them

Bren, I just want to say that I have always enjoyed your company and your spirit. I realize that you are (probably) committed to your husband and would think of no other. However, I would be honored if you could at least adopt me.

We have a joint account which I control and she has her own account. We take a set amount out each month and put it in her account and she can do with it what she pleases. It has worked out VERY well for us. A joint account was a hassle b/c she would buy something with her debit and I would have no idea until I balanced the check book (Thank goodness for online statements!) This way I control the joint ATM and only have to worry about what "we" spend. ANd since I do most of the grocery shopping and 'joint' expenditures, it makes sense. So long as she doesn't find out about my Barbado's account.............
