Homos, queers, etc, I am not going to be PC to appease anyone anymore. When I grew up gay was a term to describe happiness. They hijacked the word 'gay' for their own agenda, now they want to hijack marriage. I am tired of them pushing their agenda to equate their relationship to be the same as what God ordained for a man and woman in Genesis.
And queer was hijacked as a slur. It used to mean weird. Probably that's what it meant when you were growing up.
This was a queer post... Either definition would work here ;)

Point of order on Queer. Pardon the pun, but it can go both ways. Some use it as a slur others use it to self identify. Mostly by the more flamboyant. Don't ask me how SMOOTH knows that but he told me to post it

really? I expect this out of some obnoxious 20 year old but am surprised to get this from you. If you don't feel convicted for being so hateful towards people instead of actual sinful behavior then I guess that is between you and God.

Someone educate me: when and how did "homo" and even "queer" become slurs. It's what they are.

Did it become a slur because someone at some point simply chose to be offended?

Queer has always been a slur. Some of the more flamboyant types, as Haize correctly pointed out thanks to Smooth, have tried to claim Queer as their own. Homo has been used in a derogatory manner, mostly by straight men, but it doesn't offend me. Its just short for homosexual, which is what gay people are. Lesbian also used to be a slur, and I know some gay women who refuse to identify as lesbian but just as gay women b/c of it, but for the most part homosexual women have successfully claimed lesbian as an identifier.

For further information regarding the word queer, here's the Wikipedia link:

homo for years has been a term to make fun of people. That alone should be a reason enough to avoid it. I understand my stance may not be popular and that is fine. I do believe homosexuality is a sin and I do get annoyed that when people say simply point that out they get crucified but that does not give me the right to talk down to a group of people I don't like. Our job is to spread the gospel and allow God to sort out the rest. There is this negativity within the Christian church about issues we strongly believe in that is not conducive to spread the gospel message. I am not saying don't hold on to the truths of the Bible, but I am saying we must approach things in a much more mature fashion then we have. The sins of others is God's business, all we can do is hope somehow we become better people as we grow in Christ and in return others do the same through the conviction of the holy spirit and the influence of other Christians in their lives.

Again I realize with a good chunk of this board it is not a popular stance. It is my opinion and one I believe is backed up by scripture and the teachings of Jesus.

To quasi expand on that theme. The people who feel using Homo is ok because being Gay is a sin do they call women who have slept with more than person as Whore or Harlot?
