Agreed. It's very Deux ex machina. Let's fly back in time and save the day. Let's use a Jedi mind trick to have Lois forget what happened. Yawn.

In unrelated notes about 2010 films:
- I'm looking forward to "Secretariat".
- Not really looking forward to "Life As We Knox It", but my wife is, so by default, I am too.
- Haven't seen "Wall Street 2", "Social Network" or "The Town". I plan on Netflixing them, but if someone thinks they're worth the $20 or so bucks to watch it in the theaters, let me know.
- After "Mega Mind" bombs, would it be safe to say that Will Ferrell's film career is over?
- I'm interested in "Narnia: Voyage of the Dawn Treader" -- I didn't really like "Prince Caspian" the first time I saw it, but I did when I watched it a second time... I have a feeling it'll be the same with this one.
- I saw a trailer for a movie with Mark Wahlberg and Christian Bale that looked really good. I can't remember its name, though.

Here's my top 7 movies of 2010, so far. I've only watched seven -- which is probably more than in the previous three years of my life combined. And I must say, I've enjoyed each of these:

1. Inception
2. Toy Story 3
3. Karate Kid
4. Robin Hood
5. Salt
6. Iron Man 2
7. Alice in Wonderland

It's called "The Fighter" and it's based on the story of the famous boxer Mickey Ward (Wahlberg) and his brother Dick Ecklund (Bale). The movie was filmed in the city where I live and actually where Mickey Ward is from. My dad used to play basketball with Mickey and it's been pretty exciting to see a movie being made about his life.

The trilogy of Mickey Ward vs. Arturo Gatti were three of the best fights I have ever seen.

See, the thing is, I don't think it's that clear-cut. He's been around for how long with a new comic out every month? There's got to be more than that, the movies just haven't been able to get past the average non-fan. That's why with a few good writers and a director with an eye for visuals, I think this could be really good.

Yeah, my wife won't even let me change the channel if the commercial for this one is on, even though she's seen the same commercial dozens of times. Hopefully her mom will come visit soon so she can go see it with her.

I'm going to give credit where credit is due: I saw this movie last night, and it wasn't bad. I actually kind of liked it. It's certainly not "Citizen Kane" or anything, but it was, you know... pretty okay. 6.5 / 10.

And hey -- if you go in expecting a 2 or a 3, and leave watching a movie twice as good as you thought (and it made the wife happy?), can't complain.

You're a brave soul. I don't wish a visit with the mother-in-law on anyone.

Went to see The Social Network last night with the wife and thought it was great. Well written and acted. I'm sure there was some creative license taken with the story but it was very interesting. Anybody else see it yet? I kept wondering why they changed the Napster guy's last name until I read that there were two different guys named Shawn/Sean. Never heard of Sean Parker just Shawn Fanning.

I really liked The Social Network. thought the ending was very sad, but it was a very well acted movie. I didn't realize till like a week later reading about it that the brothers in the movie are played by the same person. Thought that was very interesting and thought he (Josh Pence) did a great job playing both of those roles.

Deff worth the money to go see and surprised me on how well the movie actually was.

I really do not understand what is going on there. Was Santa buried in a mountain? Did he eat the pig head?

Rare Exports: A Christmas Tale is a 2010 Finnish fantasy film directed by Jalmari Helander about people living near in the Korvatunturi mountain who discover the secret behind Santa Claus. The film is based on a 2003 short film titled Rare Exports Inc by Jalmari and Juuso Helander. The film focuses on a group of local reindeer herders whose Christmas is disturbed by excavations on the mountain. A scientist has ordered a team of workers to dig open what he calls "the largest burial mound in the world". An explosive used by the team uncovers what is referred to as a 'sacred grave'.

However, the occupant of the grave is still alive. Soon, the reindeer important to the local people are mysteriously killed, and children and supplies begin to disappear from the town. It emerges that the occupant is the source of the original Santa Claus myth; a supernatural being who, rather than rewarding good children, punishes the naughty. One family, however, manages to catch the culprit in a trap, and plans to sell it to the scientist to cover the losses caused by his excavation.
It's been getting very good reviews.

We saw The Fighter today and I can't recommend it enough. It was excellent. It's being hailed as the best boxing movie of all time and I'm tempted to agree. There were a few moments during the movie where the crowd in the theater actually erupted with applause. I'm not going to write a lengthy review, just go see it. 9/10

The wife and I saw True Grit yesterday and we both thought it was excellent. I thought the storyline was great (never saw the original movie) and the acting was top notch. As usual, the Coen brothers did not disappoint in any way. I would highly recommend seeing this film. 9/10

I thought it was hilarious. I would recommend checking it out if you liked The Hangover. It's kind of a rip-off of the premise of Planes, Trains and Automobiles, but it's still good in its own right.

It's hilarious. Of course, it's from the late 80's so it may not hold up well compared to newer comedies. I always liked John Candy.

HMO has never seen Planes, Trains & Automobiles? You must rent it post haste if one of your family members doesn't already own a copy. It is actually a great Christmas movie and the highwater mark of both Steve Martin & John Candy's careers.

We went to the drive-in last week (Hey, it was in the 80s and the kids were stir crazy) and saw 'Voyage of the Dawn Treader' & 'Megamind'. The 3rd Narnia flick wasn't quite as strong as the first two IMHO. But frankly the book didn't translate particularly well to the screen despite a nice attempt. Now Megamind was a surprisingly strong animated flick. My kids nearly busted a gut laughing despite it being the second half of the double feature that started around 9:30 (past my kids' bedtimes).

You're the only person I know that thinks Prince Caspian was better than this one. Everyone else thinks the new one is much better than Caspian but not as good as the first.

Perhaps it was because I had a group of small children watching these movies with me. The darker tones and gaps in the plot due to editing it down from the book made it a slight notch less than PC. But I agree wholeheartedly that neither of the sequels measured up to the original. I just read the Horse and His Boy with my son and I am curious to see how it would be translated to the big screen. Now the Magician's Nephew would seem to be tailor-made for a movie.

I saw True Grit at the matinee on Tuesday (popcorn & Cokes are only a dollar) at the Plaza. Best western I had seen in years. Even checked out the original John Wayne VHS (c. 1969) from the library, watched it yesterday, and actually liked the remake much better, which sticks much more closely to the original novel, I am told.

I was surprised, but Matt Damon actually plays a convincing Texas Ranger, and the 14-year old girl did a great job acting her part. Bridges was impressive as Rooster.

And the soundtrack would be amazing--lots of oldtime hymns.

Agree 100%. Not a big fan of Caspian, but loved the other 2.
