Unfortunately it's how I feel Liberty works. Tons of great people and a few ignorant blowhards who cast a shadow upon us all. Always has been that way and I doubt it ever changes.

Ok, I just found this tread. Please excuse my tardiness... So this is the guy that someone on the Sun Belt message board referred to when they said JFJR supports him (Barber) because he is still associated with Liberty?... If Matt Barber is an employee of Liberty University, he should be asked to resign due to his insensitive comments made against people that do not share the same beliefs as him.

Here's my stance on those rouge, Right-wing Republicans - I do not support them in no way, shape or form. Guys like Barber, Rush, Beck, ect. give Christ a bad name. They consistently use the words Conservative and Christian in the same breath when all they want to do is accomplish their own agendas.

Not sure you can say Barber, Rush and Beck are the same. 2 are entertainers. 1 is an Academician.

You must not listen to Rush/Beck. You can't compare a professor at a Christian University to them either... especially Rush. He may, or may not be a Christian (I don't know). But I'm a ditto-head and I've never heard him open up about the topic on his show, probably to avoid the very thing you have said.

The only reason why I lumped Barber into the same category with Rush and Beck is because they hold platforms (Rush and Beck with radio/talk shows, Barber with his website, and I would imagine certain LU functions?) in which their share their beliefs.

We're in a day and age where you have to be cautious in sharing how you really feel about topics. This especially applies to Christians. If you say, "I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman", you're going to catch flack about your statement regardless. However, if your tone comes off as rude, condescending or arrogant, you may be viewed in a negative way. Not everyone agrees with your viewpoint, but there are ways in expressing your beliefs without stirring up a hornets nest every time your speak.

I feel that Barber's association with Liberty makes Liberty look bad. Also with him still holding a prominent title at LU, it makes Liberty look like they condone every word Barber says. Someone must be accountable for his actions... and in this case, for his words.

Heaven forbid we ever offend someone! Eventually, it will come to the point in this country that we will not be able to say what we believe, regardless of how polite and nice we are about it, without facing at the least public backlash from those we offend by our beliefs. Most probably, Christian pastors and others of us who make our beliefs known will face legal repercussions for speaking the principles the Bible teaches. We need to be true to our principles, albeit in a tactful way, now. Too much pussyfooting around will only encourage those who oppose us and hasten the restrictions of our freedoms.

There's a huge difference between some hack with a website and the most successful radio program of all time and a multi media start up like The. Blaze.
Next you are going to try to compare Sherman to Hitler

I have to say I only here Rush talk about his faith in passing. I know Beck does but I can't be objective because I'm not really a fan.

But your forgot to throw in Hannity!

Beck is a Mormon who dislikes both Romney and Harry Reid. Fellow Latter Day Saints
Hannity is a Catholic. And you know how 'they' are 8)

Hannity did have a nice little discussion about his faith even mentioning 'Jesus Christ' in a somewhat comfortable fashion on the air this week. To some degree, I've always thought you could tell a little more about where they stand based on how they word and structure their statements on faith. Those that aren't as comfortable with the Christian Doctrine will often try to just stick to the generic "faith in God." Those who are more boisterous/serious about their faith will mention the name of Christ without hesitation.

I said here, not hear. Wow I'm an idiot. Haha

My dislike for Beck has nothing to do with his Mormonism though. Just my opinion but he ties the Bible in with politics a bit too much (letting it guide your personal beliefs and convictions is different).

I'm hesitant to wade into a thread like this, being a new member, but I did feel led to make one brief, neutral statement. One of these days, LU really needs to reach that point where we can associate with someone (hire them, invite them to speak, consult with them, etc.) without everybody (internal and external) thinking it means we are endorsing every single thing that person has ever said/done and will ever say/do. These days, it seems like we can hardly associate with anybody without getting slammed from either one side or the other. If there is anywhere that various different "breeds" of Christians can work together toward common goals without fighting each other every step of the way, it should be LU. IMHO.

In the end, does the guy do what he was brought to LU to do? We go bananas (1st amendment!!!) when a company like mozilla essentially forces a guy out because of his beliefs/behavior on a subject, but then turn around demand the same reaction from the university for the beliefs/behavior of one of its employees.

to say "well its ok for me because i'm right!" is circular and gets you nowhere.

My point exactly. There are of course some people who should be fired, whether they're from Liberty or Mozilla. But from what I have read and heard both on and off campus, either Liberty has an inordinate number of whackadoodles working for them, or we all tend to be far too quick to condemn people.

The problem is that the few whackadoodles can't keep their mouth shut and say idiotic things instead of showing the love of Christ while still proclaiming the truth.

whackadoodles. I like that word. Awesome call. :)

I can't take full credit for it, I got it from The Big Bang Theory. But it is pretty awesome.

I agree it's unfortunate that some of these people say idiotic things. Unfortunately, it seems like the number of Christians who know how to "speak the truth in love" is increasingly few and far between, and the subset of those people with terminal degrees and teaching skills is even smaller. IMHO, as a university, the best thing we can do is try to change that trend by creating whole new generations of loving, well-educated Christian men and women. Infighting and focusing on negatives (of which I am also guilty) is not going to accomplish that.

You would post that, Nazi!
Wiles went on to note, "It wasn’t this thing about an Aryan race of white people, blue-eyed, blonde-haired, white people, Hitler was trying to create a race of super gay male soldiers ... It will end up in America just like it was in Germany, but it won’t be the Jews that will be slaughtered. It will be the Christians."
