But that's basically a critique of any political speech outside of a debate. Writers are pretty much responsible for content, and they just have to deliver.
which is why no speech is all that impressive ot me

Fortunately for you, in the future, all political candidates will campaign using only interpretive dance.

But you still have to deliver it! That's the true battle! It's like a good play on the clipboard in basketball it's all just foreplay until you carry it out with success!

"great speech delivery" isn't a prerequisite for presidency in my mind. it does nothing for me.

Oh i agree...these idiots who will "now vote for _____" b/c of a speech is scary...I'm still impressed however, getting in front of that many people (which this is likely her first time in front of that many) after all the criticism she has taken, knowing there are people with laptops open waiting for her to fumble or get blanked out, is not easy.

McCain took a leap of faith hoping she could handle her own on the big stage...it worked out well for him. She is prob a better speaker then he is to be honest. We live in a society where image is everything (I.E. Obama) and past credentials dont matter as much. Kind of like I feel the American people would never vote a person in a wheel chair in office...but thats not here nor there.

kevinrmcguire...

I'm glad you acknowledge that Obama hasn't done anything noteworthy.
(BTW, how's that organizing he did for Cold War Russia coming along?)

I'm amazed when people say he'll be a great 'leader' but it begs the question "What has he ever lead?" The year he served as editor of the Harvard Law Review is the least-often cited review over the last 20 years with an average of 170 times a year (http://volokh.com/posts/1202117776.shtml#324143) while the average is in the mid 260's. It means the work he put out is considered to be the lowest quality of work by the law community as a whole.

As for what he's done... I'm concerned about what he hasn't done. According to a Democrat Party site Obama has been chair of the Senate sub-commitee on Foriegn relations dealing with Europe (NATO) and hasn't held a substantive meeting. When Hillary brought this up he basically said that he hasn't had the time because of the campaign. This is the kind of "leadership" people want? It just seems blind leading blind.

Everyone in politics has a past and the expectation is not perfection. If McCain hadn't picked Palin I was extremely concerned about how I would have voted. A person doesn't decide based on a speech. A person decides by looking at a man/woman's life's work to this point. The likelihood is that we'll get the same type of results on a more grand scale. McCain has spent his lifetime in service to his country and Palin is living and breathing Americana who happens to have about 100 x's more accomplishments than the man from Harvard. I simply do not see why people put their faith in Him.

Sarah Palin's speech nearly matched Obama's record audience...

Palin pulled in 37.2 million viewers across broadcast and cable networks, according to Nielsen Media Research.

That's 55% higher than Day 3 of the DNC, when her Democratic counterpart, Joe Biden, and President Clinton took the stage (24 million).

It's also up a sharp 99% from the Republican convention's third day in 2004 (18.7 million). In fact, it came close to upsetting Obama's historic address on Thursday -- the most-watched convention speech in history (38.4 million viewers).

And I'm sure McCain will pull in 21.5 or something.

Not that it matters all that much, but Obama's speech was carried live on 4 more channels than Palin's.

One more thing. Why is it that every time Obama does anything, it is "historic" in the eyes of the media, but there is no talk of that with Palin?

Tonight has been an absolute snoozefest. Did they use up all their good speakers last night? Bring in Alan Keyes or something to wake this place up!

McCain said something and some woman stood up and was basically attacked by security. CBS had their camera on her.

I don't care what side of an issue you are on, protesting during somebody's speech is classless. There's a time/place for that stuff.

I think it does more harm (for the cause of the protester) then good....it only proves how radical and anti establishment the other side is

Agreed. Of course, maybe being anti-establishment is the point.
