Well, let's be honest, Santorum is running on killing all muslims and gays :D

And perry... what the heck happened to him?

Newt, ritt momney, I still don't like them.

Cain doesn't have any executive experience.

I kinda like Bachmann.

Idk what to tell you haize just thinking aloud here.

Yeah. Every time Perry opened his mouth tonite he did himself no favors.
You don't like Mitt because you have a secret man crush on him. That's ok.

Funny, I don't think anyone missed Huntsman

Mitt is such a robot. His trying to take control (because Anderson Cooper couldn't) was getting annoying. I don't know how anybody likes him. He just acts too "slick".

Allow me to clarify... I meant political executive experience. My fault, thanks for pointing that out.

Well someone needed to. It showed leadership and an ability to get people moving in a direction. I don't think he is slick. When I think of slick I think of a used car salesman. Romney IS very polished but look who we compare him to on stage. Paul is the only other person to have run for president, Newt doesnt get a lot of questions and Cain is/was a talk radio host. Other than that no one up there has experience in this type of limelight. If you had him on stage with Obama, I don't think he would come off as 'slick' because the other person on stage is also polished. I still like him. Perry lost all modicum of support or respect from me, not that he cares, because he came across as desperate. I can't believe he went after Romney with the illegal alien thing, then wouldn't let him finish then went after him again AFTER he explained it. Totally classless, ditto Santorum. I thought Romney showed great class by not responding to the second attack about the issue and just calmly said "I think we have already gone down that road and don't need to revisit it.". And he said even the crowd agrees with me! (they were boing). So much for the 'no one in the West likes Romney'

You need to get over this. All these guys have made really dumb decisions. This was a commercial, and had absolutely no effect on anything. Through this entire campaign process, if I had to vote right now, it would be Gingrich. And I'm really tired of everyone dismissing his chances because of "baggage". In my over-inflated opinion, he's the best man for the job, plain and simple.

In other words, "shut up and get behind Newt, because I really like the guy!!!!"

I haven't even brought up his moral baggage, cause I don't care about it that much.

But that's okay, you just keep listening and doing what Hannity and Karl Rove tell you to :D

I have no idea what Hannity or Rove have said. And I wouldn't take advice from either.

I didn't say you have to support Newt, that's your decision. I just think that your reasons against are pretty weak and vague when you look at the big picture (and compared to the other candidates' weaknesses).

Well, I just look at Newt's record. What he did as speaker. What he's done even as a candidate. And I just find he constantly says the right things but does otherwise. In 94, he was swept into office, promising the Contract with America. Did he live up to this? He got there and acted like every other politician. Then, Newt has gone onto liberal shows like DeFace the Nation and said that he would not repeal Obama. Then, he goes around saying he will. The social engineering comment really bothered me too.

I know you like Newt, and I share my biases too, I just think you're so into Newt that you kinda just go after everyone else's opinions that don't like Newt.

Anyways, to each his own I assume.

Wait, what? I've made maybe one or two posts about Newt, and one was actually quoting an article that said why he wouldn't make a good president. And as for going after everyone else's opinions, feel free to scroll through this thread and get back to me. As far as I can remember (which isn't very far), I've largely ignored this thread compared to others. So let's not get too excited and start exaggerating everything.

Is there one candidate in the field where you cannot find problems in their record? Only Cain, and that's because he has no public record. There are two guys in the field that have more than one gimmicky idea, and that would be Paul and Gingrich. They have ideas, solutions, and a way to get them done. That's what I think we need right now. I've read their stuff, and I like Newt's plan immensely.

Believe me, I'm not a "Newt guy". I just think he's the best candidate, and I've not once ever tried to push that idea on anyone. And after post after post after post in here, I still have no idea who you'd vote for.

I have my final 3 as :Romney, Cain and Newt. Although I could see Paul slide into the 3rd slot.
EVERYONE of them would be then what we have. I would love seeing any combination of those 3.
Romney has changed positions on a few things, but they have usually been for the good. I accept his rationale of Massachusettes health care. How mamy times does he have to say it WASN'T intended to be a template for a national model, and he would REPEAL Obamacare. If he flips on that when he is in office, he would lose any and all support.
Romney is going to need someone who excites the masses like Palin did with McCain. I think Newt and Cain can do that. I think a Cain/Newt or Vice versa will get people excited but may have more baggage.

please explain to me why this matters?? I am not really a hug fan of Cain but his lack of political experience is a plus for him in my opinion

Well postman, would you like to run a business without a day of experience before working under somebody to learn the business model?

Same with the President. Sure, it's refreshing in a way, but I feel experience is necessary for a big job like it.

I've had this argument with Cain supporters (yes I know you aren't one). It's just one of those issues where you have to agree to disagree with.

Ok, so which one has experience being president? Governors are executive leaders, but a much smaller scale than leader of the free world. Congressmen/senators are not necessarily in positions of leadership - most are just sheep following the party leaders. Cain has been in executive leadership of a couple different large corporations and been very successful at it. I think he's as qualified as any of them. Ability to lead can transcend experience. I'm not sure who I like most yet, but I would never rule anyone out simply because they lack political experience. Political experience does not equal leadership ability.

To be a successful executive, you have to surround yourself with experts from different fields. I think Cain,Romney ( both business executives) and to a smaller extent Newt understand that.

I just think leadership experience is what matters for presidency whether its political, business, military leadership, etc.

I just don't think political experience should be the be all prerequisite to become the president

I joined this site in order to talk about LU sports with other fans but today I was bored and started looking at other sections of this site not related to sports and what i found made me even more excited to be on this site. I already spend a large majority of my time on here but all the other things I have found will increase this time. Oh and by the way i will be voting for Ron Paul in 2012. If you ever see the rock painted or other Ron Paul stuff on campus I more than likely had a roll in it. Also part of a group trying to get Dr. Paul to come to convo.

At least I can watch the debate and miss the blow out.
Maria Maritobo or whatever her last name is really is a complete witch. She is either the most insecure debate host or she thinks she is all that. Several times when the crowd applauded and interrupted her question she rolled her eyes and gave a look that defind condescending. My first exposure to her, because only 8 people watch CNBC .
This debate was all economy and Ron Paul looked and sounded good.
Bachman was looking hot tonite but really is in over her head. Very obvious she is standing on a small platform, makes her look odd. You're tiny, embrace it.
Santorum is still whiny and trying to pick fights with some of the candidates and can't stand it that they wont engage him.
Rick Perry is good when he only answers in one sentence or less. Did not think he was such an empty suit. I think he's a solid governor, but that would be the hight of his competency. Which is not a bad thing. He can't even remember the departments he would cut! :dontgetit
Everytime I hear John Huntsmann I swear I hear crickets... Does anyone really care what he has to say?
This debate was in Romneys wheelhouse. He almost looked too giddy to answer the questions
Newt LOVED tweaking Maria Papadakis or whatever. She was fuming because she had nothing. At least the talking heads at Fox have brains.
Herman Vain looked good. Mitt bailed him out at the beginning. quote of the night with "Princess Nancy". His talk radio background came in handy there.

This debate solidified my top 4 Mitt, Cain, Newt and Paul IMO these are the only 4 who have a chance at winning the primary and handing Obama his walking papers. I could support 3 of them but hope they all have a roll in the next administration.

This is a bit disheartening....someone in this thread mentioned stewardship as it relates to voting. As Christians, I think we need to cast our vote with that mindset. So, that said, do I believe that God cares more about our economy and healthcare or more that we, as a nation kill over a million (number from the Center for Disease Control) of the most defenseless in our society in the name of convenience?

I understand the resistance to vote on an issue that doesn't appear will ever change in this country. However, that is somewhat of a self fulfilling prophecy. You can't win a fight that you quit.

I completely agree on this. There have been plenty of "conservative" presidents since abortion has been legalized and nothing has been done. In my opinion if we don't fix our economy then issues like abortion and gay marriage are not going to matter for very long.
