Jonathan Carone wrote: February 5th, 2020, 8:51 am Pelosi tearing up the speech was childish and out of line.

But it was straight out of the Trump playbook.

Do something to change the narrative and distract from what you don’t want others hearing.

No one is talking about any of the good things he said in his speech. They’re all talking about her.
It wasn’t out of the Trump play book at all. Did it change the narrative ? Sure. But when Trump does stuff like this there’s a method to the madness. This is just madness. The narrative now is that she tore up tributes to all the people who were honored last night in the speech. She didn’t disrespect Trump with that chicken scratch move she disrespected a 100 year old Tuskegee Airman made a a Brigadier a child who got a scholarship to better herself a wife and son of a soldier killed in battle and the list goes on. But now people will focus on who she disrespected who WERE talked about in the speech. Not Trumpian at all
Her excuse? ‘It was better than the alternative’ is also horrible. Better than putting it back in the folder? Better than just leaving it there? Better than giving it to the National Archives? Better than giving it to someone in her district that may cherish it? Better than auctioning it off and giving the proceeds to charity? It’s one of only 2 copies. Could have been worth a lot.

PH, you are so blinded by your Trump love...That was such a Trump move. He certainly isn't above doing something like that. I am tired of all politicians. Can we impeach them all?

On a side note, I would like to point out to all you die hard republicans who seem to think all media and comedians are against them, late night has been having a field day with the democratic party of Iowa. These politicians just write the material for them.

If the ripped up speech is still around it's now probably worth more than it would have been if she didn't rip it up. It's pretty unique for a State of the Union address.

I'm sure a lot of folks would want to own "The Trump speech Pelosi ripped up."

Either way, I can't invest in either side of this stuff anymore. It's comical. I just choose to focus my energy on my classroom and community.

It has disappeared. Many people were looking for it last night to auction it off for charity.
I bet one of the people honored in the speech would have appreciated that copy. But Nancy felt that destroying it was a better option. I mean I’m fine with her snub at the introduction and I’m fine with him not shaking her hand. Tit for tat and all that. Do I wish they would have held with protocol? Sure. But that’s been done away with for years now. What she did at the end followed by her explanation was over the line IMO

It's not like here lame introduction was the only reason Trump had to snub her disingenuous handshake offer. The words "he is forever impeached" come to mind.

The way each side justifies what their guys do while ripping the other side for doing the same thing has become so comical.

I used to enjoy politics and debate.

Now I’m annoyed by it all and look at it as the worlds worst reality show.

The words, "I can't wait for the election to be over" keep leaving my lips but lets be honest, this has been going on for the past 10 to 20 years as the 24 hour news cycle and social media have saturated our lives with constant political rhetoric that often wouldn't be acceptable in regular day to day life.

Did he shake Pence’s hand?

You hit the nail on the head. This is the new “reality”
I will say I’m shocked surprised impressed etc that Trump didn’t bring up impeachment last night. I’m glad he didn’t and instead used the speech to highlight a bunch of great Americans. That was a pleasant surprise from the expected. And a nice departure from the laundry list most speeches become
I will admit however to a part of me that was hoping for at least one zinger like “Bet you didn’t expect to see me back here”. Ha

Not that I recall, but I don't believe Pence extended his hand, and Pelosi did. He responded to her handshake offer the same way as he responded to her impeachment efforts. As if they did not exist.

That’s sort of my point. It’s not like he shook one and not the other. When you look at it real speed it’s like Trump didn’t even see it So I’m not sure it was an expected gesture by either of them. Seems like a set up on her part but who cares. It would have been a deal to me had he shook Pence’s hand but not hers. But he didn’t nor did he act like it was an expectation of either of them. That pales in comparison to what she pulled at the end.

Hop on over to more liberal places like Reddit and read the masses of people cheering Pelosi as a hero for it. The same people who decry Trump’s childish or bullying behavior.

It validates our baser instinct of wanting to be nasty to those we disagree with, so we cheer both Trump or Pelosi on when they act like mean girls. If anything points to our loss of Christian values as a society, this is it. Christ told us to love our enemies and bless those who persecute us, but we are much happier when they “get what they deserve.”

Also, yes, I know I’m being dramatic lol

The worse thing about all this, is there are people we all probably see daily, that will still vote for those liberal democrats.

Depending on who gets the nomination, I might be one of them.

I will probably "throw my vote away" again and vote for a 3rd party candidate. Either that or Mickey Mouse for giving me Disney+ this year.

This is exactly why I am hoping that the Democrats nominate Bernie Sanders or Warren. If Dem's don't nominate a socialist this time around, in 2024, when they are much more likely to win, I fear that they will nominate one then. If Sanders gets the nomination, Trump is much more likely to win re-election, and Dems will hopefully moderate for the next election.

My vote might actually matter this year. The last two elections I was in an overwhelmingly red state and it didn’t matter who I voted for.

You’ve made it obvious that you’ll never vote for Trump. So it’s either a Democrat or Protest vote

Apparantly my absentee registration expired. I should get it figured out but I'm just so jaded.

My vote probably matter but I just don't care anymore.

It doesn't matter. They won't count it unless it can sway the vote. That's why my voter record says I didn't vote for president in 2012. Got to treat our military well, am I right?
