update: our little guy was born on 3-14-08. 8 lbs, 12 oz, 21.5 inches long. (I already have him running pass routes in the back yard.) He is amazing. I thought people were making all that stuff up about the feelings you have when you hold your child for the first time. I was wrong.

On the diaper front, I am sitting in front of a computer at 5 am because he has his am and pm a little confused at the moment. I have already changed 4 diapers since midnight. Nice. those 1,252 diapers may go pretty fast!

Bigtime congratulations!

All three of my kids got adjusted to the timing within a few weeks. Your time will come. Now you understand why so many people take so much time off after the birth of their child. It really saps your energy.

Okay, I need to update this.
In May, my students threw me another diaper shower and we ended up with a total of 2,500 diapers (give or take 100). He grew out of some of the sizes before we could use all of the diapers, so we have about 400 sitting in a closet right now.
I just changed the final free diaper from our stash that will fit him. That means he went through about 2,100 diapers in 381 days.
That's a lot longer than I thought they would last. I guess making the little guy go with paper towels and duct tape once a day paid off.

We took all the ones our kids grew out of to church for the nursery -- nobody ever thinks about it, but they can use them there, for parents who don't send enough diapers with their kids.

And re: cloth diapers (for future reference for anyone else) - worthless without a diaper service that cleans them for you. Someone got my parents that when they got me (I was adopted), and they loved it.
