I agree. Sometimes. That's what I was saying earlier in the thread. You have to take it on a case by case basis. Even ten years ago when we were still wearing ties to class, there were people getting reps for things I thought should have sent them home. In the end, I was glad they stayed. I know people (especially students) really like to think the worst about LU, but they really do care about people. That's why the school exists.

You can't always just "love them and minister" to them and that will make everything better. It's true that sometimes if you kick them out, they'll regret what they've done to be kicked out and try to straighten up. In this way I think Liberty is losing what it standards are (were), and I think the community sees it as well. Liberty students, in some cases, who are "Christians", out partying, doing God knows what ruining the testimony of Christ and Liberty, and nothing is done about it.

I think it's a fine line. It needs to be handled on a case by case situation. IF the individual(s) in question are open and receptive to their wrongdoing they should be allowed back. If, they just don't care, they should not. Those that are allowed back should be informed that if they mess up again more than likely they will be kicked out of school. Thats my opinion.

Here's an example of someone that should be kicked out. A girlfriend is an SLD and there is a girl on her dorm that Liberty told not to come back next year. They tried the "Lets minister to her" approach and she was "open" to her wrongdoings, so they let her stay. Was she really sorry about what she has done? No, she kept doing the things that she did over and over and over again. Finally, Liberty told her not to come back. Now, with two weeks left, she comes in every night drunk (she's a freshman, she's underage) and stoned almost every night, because she knows she won't get kicked out. The RA has done everything she can, the RD has done everything she can, but the dean of women hasn't done anything about it, just tell her... "don't come back next year." The fact is, she's stoned every night and last time I checked marijuana is illegal and she's drunk everynight, and last time I checked underage drinking is illegal. Nothing is being done about it. The LUPD has came to their dorm and have given her a drug test and she failed. Nothing done about it.

Should be booted on the spot. Who does she know?

There is a difference between not wearing ties and those who get drunk and have naked girls in the room. For the drunkness if you dont boot, then it gives sign to the other students, hey I can drink and have naked girls in my room and the school will still love me, pray for me and oh btw I can still party. Also say someone gets drunk and go on a rampage on campus and kills someone or somebodies, then what will the school say. Can you imagine the lawsuits? Or the write up nation wide for the hyprocrisy that the liberal newspaper will have with LU. Tough love should be applied. Who is to say he or she will not straighten up and reapply to LU?
LU is a christian school, if you want the booze, girls in room to to STATE U
What would LU do if this girl goes out tonight, gets stoned, drunk and hit by a car coming back to campus?

I had a phone call from a mother the other day whose son was assigned a roommate who had some foul language on his facebook. She ripped me for about 45 minutes for why I would let someone like that come to this university. That is something that can be ministered too -- drinking and topless girls in your room? That's a little extreme.

Woah, that's what's called a helicoptor mom. You should have told her to let her son grow a pair and deal with this himself. It's time for her to let him be a big boy. The sad part is, I bet he was embarrased by him mommy doing this for him either.

I have read most of this thread and LU does pick and choose where they enforce rules and where they don't...they let some things slide, then sometimes they come down with you hard

It makes me angry when there are kids out drinking all the time and they never at all get in trouble with it....I just don't understand it at all......

there was a time when a friend of mine got kicked out of Liberty freshmen year for something she should not have gotten kicked out for, I don't want to really talk too much about it because it will get me worked up....I almost left because of it but I knew this is where God wanted me so I stayed, and I am glad I did

I love liberty but sometimes I just scratch my head at some people in the Dean's office....I don't know how the brains work, and I am not sure I ever will....

I think that if one is caught drinking and had nude girls in Guys dorm rooms or vice versa, i think they should be kicked out. It is very extreme as TDDance said earlier in this thread. There are times that one has to put their foot down and take action.

and girls being the dorms happens even more often...the topless thing is a little more rare...

It bothers me when people blatantly break the rules, and nothing happens to them, and then you have someone like me who makes one bad choice and you end up on probation (and thankful that the Dean didn't kick you out)...if you want the whole story on that one drop me a PM

and BJ you are lucky you didn't get kicked out (which by the way I would've completely disagreed with), but the friend I was talking about that got kicked out, got kicked out for the same reason you almost got kicked out for...the offered no counseling...nothing....I was very much angry, and if I keep typing those feelings will come back...so I will just stop it at that

I never drew a comparison to the two things. I simply used the line about wearing ties as a reference to a point in time when LU was supposedly different, since people are saying the school is changing, or losing something.

I find more and more than when guys talk about another guy having or not having the cajones to do something, it's more or less a direct reflection of their level of intelligence. With very few exceptions, balls = stupidity. Swap the two words when they're used and you'll usually find them to be completely interchangeable.

As for the original subject matter of this thread, I stand by my previous statements. It's not always black and white, and we have a responsibility to forgive as much as we do to discipline. Sometimes you need one, sometimes you need the other. That's why we employ people to make those decisions.

Now, for those of you who have a problem with it, my suggestion to you is the same to those who have a problem with the rules at Liberty. If you don't like it, complain formally to the administration. If you really don't like it, have your parents (or the people paying for your schooling) complain in the same manner. Failing that, please leave. Bitterness doesn't do anyone any good, no matter which side of the rulebook you're on.

Here's quote that I hear at every CFAW luncheon:

"If we catch a boy in a girl's room, we shoot him [cheers from parents]...or we make him wish we had."
