Not that I'm biased against a good beer can chicken or anything, but apple juice also makes for a really good chicken. Seriously.

Mallett...how do you do the beer can with the chicken? Not that I would ever try that...

If any of you have ever been to the greater Cincinnatti area...after you try Montgomery Inn, definately give Burbanks Real BBQ a try. They have some great BBQ...they have live blues bands on weekends...FYI, Gary Burbank is the owner, and he is the host of the afternoon show on 700 WLW. Good show.

its really easy...

at kitchen supply stores most will have a 3 prongs can holder that will go in the grill....basically take a can of beverage and dump out 1/3 or it. take some sort of bbq rub (your preference) rub the chicken down, inside and out. then take a teaspoon of the rub and mix it in with the beverage in the can. place the chicken on top of the can inside teh cavity of the chicken...

put it on indirect heat at 265-275 for an hour and a half to 2 hours. and whalah...its so moist and delicious...

Isn't this educational?

As for Burbanks, its not bad. But Gary is one of the best (if not the best) radio hosts in America bar none.

I need to stop going to this thread...it always makes me hungry late at night...there is this BBQ place back home that I went to for lunch one day with this old guy I was helping with some painting from much church...he kept talking about this place all morning long...and then he is like (In southern accent), "I tell you what I could really use some of that BBQ now..." and then we went and he treated me...it was probably the best I have had, but i haven't gone to a whole lot of different BBQ places...that one, and I've been to Sonny's BBQ (my first job was there as a dishwasher....ahhhh memories).....

For the record, I consider Sonny's VERY subpar barbecue.

haha...so do i...and the fact that i worked there made it worst...oh the stories i could tell....i think that is why that little place the guy from church brought me to seemed so good....

and when i mean stories i could tell....i mean stories...i always liked the Beans there though...and i never saw any shady business around the beans...everything else...well, thats another story

I thought Sonnys were only in Florida...am I wrong about this?

Sly...if you have XM radio, you can catch his show on channel 173 in the afternoons. 700 WLW is brodcast on that XM channel.

Another place I though of is a small place in Birmingham called Jim and Nicks. Fantastic pulled pork and cornbread. Fast too! (and please DO NOT mention Dreamland. It is by far...the worst BBQ I have ever eaten...at least the one in Birmingham)

Someone mentioned a place to me, in Danville, called Short Sugar's. Anyone ever been there? I was thinking of making the drive out one Saturday when I had a hankerin' for some Q.

It's a local landmark. Mainly because it hasn't gone out of business yet.

Personally, I think their Q is overrated.

I love jabs at Danville. I can't imagine any food being worth the trip to that dump.

That's generally how I feel about Danville as well, but I thought I'd ask before I made the trip. You never know where you'll find a little barbecue joint at. Of course, I haven't really ever found anything in Danville, so I wouldn't expect it to start now.

I went to this place in DC (Georgetown area) when I was a sophomore in high school (Old Glory I believe is the name, anybody that lives in that area can correct me if Im wrong) and they had 8 or 9 different styles of sauce and they had Kansas City Style sauce, and it was some of the best BBQ I had in a while. There is this place in NC called the Duck Inn on the Outer banks where we would ALWAYS get RIBS from whenever we were vacationing down there. Yeah it was a good 30 minutes there and back but riding in the car with the smell of those ribs made it worth it.

The Duck Inn is awesome. Any place in Duck is okay with me, though. Duck and Corolla are my favorite places on Earth.

There is one constant that I've learned from years spent watching local news coverage and that is that if something bad has happened, it probably happened in Danville. Those people down there like their violence domestic-style. If there's any possible implement with which somebody could be shot or stabbed, I guarantee that somebody in Danville has tried it.
