hahahaha that couldnt be further from the truth, you would be so surprised. Navy and army have to wear their uniforms or the school polo, and as liberty we have to wear dress pants and ties, but other than that no one dresses up. The top guy at cornell seriously wears a tshirt, sweatpants, and slippers. They are all a bunch of hippies who cant stand liberty, if they have any money they sure dont show it. and they all are druggies (hence hippies) and drink every night after the debates. and as far as the trash talking, i dont know how it goes with the other schools, but just about every debate the other team has to say something about jerry, liberty, baptists, or the fact that we only win because we take so many teams, but most of us know how to give it back and stay in the liberty way, like simply reminding them that its ok they lost, its to be expected when we spend more on printing than they do their entire program

1) we dont use 3 x 5 cards, 2) we dont use pocket protectors, its the 21st century, most people flow on their laptops now, 3) those arent really debate type arguments, a real debate argument would be something like you say we should overrule parental consent for a minor to have an abortion but we have substantial amounts of evidence that prove that by doing that there will be nuclear war

Wow...

Those would be some examples of heckles that I posted, not real debate arguments.

TO help you out qkslvrsrfrboy....

1. Do you wear Quick Silver? If not, what's the point of your SN?

2. What is the real debate topic this year?

3. Do you honestly believe Brett will be back and not running a consulting firm in D.C. or writing speaches for Congressman or President McCain?

4. Can a Swallow (a five ounce bird) carry a one pound coconut?

1. The story is when i lived in california i was a skimboarder and almost got a sponsorship from quiksilver, i made that s/n back then and have used it as my other sn's since.

2. The real debate topic this year is Resolved: The United States Supreme Court should overrule one or more of the following decisions

Planned Parenthood v. Casey, 505 U.S. 833 (1992) (deals with restrictions on abortion ie spousal notification, parental consent, 24 hr waiting period, informed consent.

Ex parte Quirin, 317 U.S. 1 (1942) (deals with presidents power to hold military commissions on suspected terrorists)

U.S. v. Morrison, 529 U.S. 598 (2000) (Deals mainly with commerce clause)

Milliken v. Bradley, 418 U.S. 717 (1974) (deals with forcing integration of inner city schools and suburban schools)

3. Yes i do honestly believe that Brett will be back someday, he already is running a consulting agency along with the guy whos taking over the reigns next semester, and he loves Debate but more importantly he loves Liberty. Yes there is a chance he may not return, but it wouldnt be because he sees it as a downgrade as it was somewhat implied when i made my initial response.

4. although the swallow could grab the coconut by its husk, its a simple question of weight ratios, a five ounce bird could not carry a one pound coconut.

And what you guys were posting as heckles arent really the heckles we get, they more have to do with the fact that were jerrys kids. There actually is a facebook group about debaters that refuse to debate jerrys kids.

qkslvrsrfrboy...

1. Cool, but don't tell Brokeback

2. Thanks. I wasn't aware that there were 4 options. I thought it was 1 or 2. Thanks for sharing that info.

3. Have you seen Jerry McGuire? I'm sure Brett has...

4. It could be carried by an African swallow right?

5. Where is this facebook group... that'd be interesting reading.

6. What is your favorite logical flaw to slip in when the opponents aren't looking?

im not sure if the facebook group still exists but i remember seeing a group called i refuse to debate jerrys kids. As far as Jerry Mcguire, i never have actually seen it, one of the few movies i havent. I dont know about my favorite logical flaw, but my favorite thing to do is to just put words in the opponents mouth, for instance in one debate we read a Dis Advantage called Judicial Activism, they read answers called Judicial independence, and even though these are the same term, i told the team they were two different things and there answers didnt fit, and they dropped it. We won that Round on Judicial Activism and their lack of answers. Another one was I took a simple phrase that another team said such as "Were dealing with american schools, not Bosnian schools" and told them this was like saying america is better than everyother country and will cause more terrorism, which they never denied, and we won on that.

That's one thing I think is dumb about the debate format is that you have to answer every point no matter how ludacris or else you get deducted points.

The other funny thing is that everything ends up in WWIII.

yeah, thats why im considering doing moot trial next year, everything comes to nuclear war. I had one debate that caused 5 nuclear wars, its just that we proved they caused three, they proved we caused two, and so we won on impact analysis, it was ridiculous. But has anoyone on here seen Thank you for smoking? Its a great movie, and has alot to do with what we do in debate, kinda.

Has a lot to do with it... kinda? I hope the coaches teach you to be a little more convincing than that.

During a debate in one of my Coms classes I had to support Hillary Clinton's Healthcare plan... although at the start I was ticked off b/c I didn't support it and I figured my opponent would wipe the floor of me... I actually learned a ton about the plan and really thought it had some legs... by the time the debate came around I kicked tail. I still think something towards a single-purchaser plan would be cool. I enjoyed learning about debate... It just seems less worthwhile when it's more about speed and answering arguments with nuclear war instead of true and honest discussion over the feasability of the issues.

by kinda i mean hes not an actual debater, but what he does is what we do in debate. and yeah i agree, the slower debate is better, however your ear trains to be able to understand the way debaters talk and so it still is all educational, just not so much so in the sense that alot of it is fake, however one of my favorite lines i used earlier this year against georgetwon when they said that they didnt have any answers to our Dis Advantage and so this destroyed their education, i stood up and said "we do your plan, it causes nuclear war, and thats the facts, theres your education" and at the West point debate tourney, the final round judges are 2 generals and a real judge, and they dont understand debate, so the teams in that round have to slow down and perfectly explain all of their arguments, its really educational as well as entertaining

Here's a serious question for the debate program:

Is LU debate going to answer the critics who question the validity of the debate dynasty by also participating in and attempting to attain similar results in the other format of collegiate debate, Parliamentary Debate, which draws upon knowledge of technical argument techniques and persuasive skill sets. Also is LU now sending Undergrad teams to Mock Trial/Moot Court competitions in addition to the law students' moot court competitions?

parliamentary debate is done mainly over on the west coast, we have a kid on the JV team who did that at wyoming last year, and a few of our recruits did mainly parli in highschool and our having difficulties making the transition. Its a completely different league of debate, and so LU would need to seperate debate programs. Also, LU currently has a moot trial team and they have been doing pretty good this year from what ive heard, as i said earlier i am somewhat considering switching to the moot trial team next year.
