I don't know if it's "craft" but Hank's is some seriously amazing stuff as far as root beer goes. Barq's is really only my number 1 because it's cheaper and easier to come by in my regular stomping grounds.

So we're recommending sodas that are sold at dollar stores and Big Lots now?

Cider Jim wrote:Anybody remember Double Cola from the 1970s? I hated the stuff, but Dad bought it because it was cheaper than Coke or Pepsi.
It was better than Tab. Remember that stuff? I actually liked Fresca though, from the same era.
I grew up on RC Cola with a bag of peanuts dumped in the bottle. That was a complete meal.

They still make Fresca and I love it. You can also occasionally find TAB

I drank a few Jolt Colas to help get me through Finals back in the day.

Sorry your link didn't work, Haize. But it did introduce me to one of my new favorite photographers. I suspect he is a not too distant cousin.

In college, I remember going to classes in the morning, working second shift at the Choo Choo, and then leaving at midnight from TN, making that 8 hour drive to WV to see my parents: the only thing that keep me awake was Jolt Cola and No-Doze.

Not with me. I have never bought into the hype based on my tastings. I see it like Vernors or Cincinnati chili. If you develop a taste for it early then you are addicted for life. But those who taste it first with a more mature palate don't appreciate the flavors.

So Cheerwine fanatics, live it up. But don't hate on those who don't enjoy it the way you do.

ahh my palate is not mature enough. Leave it to sly to talk down to people in a craft soda thread.

He's a Texan (I checked his immigration papers, they approved him for citizenship)...that's what they do to anything East Coast based, as a way of coping with the fact they're largely irrelevant outside of their own state (except Dallas, the Cowboys are America's team).
