Pssst. Please. (Ozzie reset ... and I'm not talking Osborne)

Not exactly a scientific poll and that lame music hasn't exactly stood the test of time.

When Jimmy Page played Kashmir for (then) Puff Daddy on SNL, I think he invalidated anything he had previously done.

Loser.

Apparently a man has got to feed his ego, too. I don't think he's hurting from royalties off of LZ merchandise. I think he was just feeding an addiction to the spotlight.

Yes a U2 fan said "It all started to sound the same" I would say the same thing about the new U2 as well.
MEDIC - I know as you read this you have on one of those LZ shirts with the blimp exloding with 3/4 length sleeves. Go on admit it!

Correction, he's wearing his Pyromania sleeveless shirt with the Union Jack on both sides. Now that was some sweet gear.

Have you listened to their new album? Aside from the similarity in style and tempo between Crumbs From Your Table and Original Of The Species, no two songs on that album are alike. I think it's their best work since Achtung Baby.

Sorry, I just had to point out what a horrible argument this is. What does this really say about the quality or significance of U2's music? Even if it was true (which it is not), if I said "Got an acoustic guitar? You can probably learn to play 80% of Bob Dylan's songs in a day," or even applied that to Johnny Cash, each one would be even more true than the U2 statement, but it says nothing of the quality or significance of their music.

Just because you can play a song doesn't mean you're as talented or more talented than the artist who wrote it. You know why? You didn't write it. That's where the true talent comes in. Anyone with a strat can learn Yngwie riffs, but Yngwie is the genius who wrote the riff, hot shot.

I didn't think it was an argument. I thought he was just pointing out that most of The Edge's riffs are pretty easy to play.

Everyone knows that simplicity has nothing to do with quality.

an actual guitar vs a guitar accessory...terrible analogy..

it actually takes talent to play yngwie not anyone can pick up a strat and play it......it takes no talent to play u2....my wife who is fairly inept with the ax can play many u2 songs...

the main flaw in your arguement is that cash and dylan are talented...."The Edge"(<- retarded by the way) and U2 aren't....cash and dylan made it with little to no commercial push....U2 had greater luxuries...

U2 hasn't played an original note in years, resorting to computers and industrial electronica to be "cutting edge" their music is pretentious and they try to be meaningful but it just ends up being bad...they should of gone a way a few years ago...like 8 years ago...

U2 live was possibly one of the worst concerts i've ever been too...out of rtyhym, bono's voice was terrible, and edge isn't that great at guitar....that was the only U2 concerts i've seen but i've seen them play live on tv/ video/ dvd and it hasn't been much better..

BTW Be sure to check out the latest issue of Spin for a touching story about their artistic decision to hawk IPods.

(In Case you were in a coma during the 80's)
THIS JUST IN: By U2's own admission they are not great musicians. For those of us who LONG for the OLD U2 days and purchased U2byU2, it was again stated. THey all pretty much say Edge (GREAT NAME) is not very deft with the guitar and that Adam (IS that Marajuana) Clayton didn't even know how to PLAY the bass when the band started. I at least was not arguing that they were the greatest MUSICIANS of all time, just where the band fit into the Pantheon of Rock. I agree Mr McGriff, U2's music over the last 15 years has mostly been industrial, somewhat original IMO, but not the reckless abandoned group they were from Boy to Rattle and Hum.
As for concerts, WOW. Under a Blood Red Sky was my first exposure to them "live" and they were great. They put on a GREAT live show, or at least used to. Also, this just in, MOST lead singers sound different (i.e. WORSE) live than on vinyl. Off the top of my head: David Lee Roth, Boston, Wayne Newton, Sebastian Bach. (Never seen Madonna, but she is ALL recording studio!) Finally, on the concert/live topic, their 9/11 tribute at the SuperBowl was amazing!
I am enjoying going through the new book, and Jamming To The Oldies (Electric Co (Live), Two Hearts Beat as One, Walk Away and I Will Follow(Live) are tops right now) but it makes me miss how incredible they USED to be and long for the time when they do a "Retro Tour".

Taste in music is like taste in food. Some people don't like Chinese, and some people do.

Blah blah blah.

Most of what you listen to sucks. Get over it.

this was also a concert in highschool not one a few years back....so it was right when they were starting to go sucky...

oh and thanks for the newsflash, i'd of never known that voices sounded worse live...what a concept....no i'm talking terrible....he can't hold notes and he was just terrible....i longed for the time when he would start singing and then stop and hold the mic to the crowd so they could sing....a breath of fresh air...
